How exactly is this going to revolutionize anything?
Beats me, other than the growth industry of conspicuous consumption. I'm getting annoyed with the incessant product placement on all the channels, too. A writer for the Washington Post was skeptical of the "revolutionary" aspects of this new device.
The iPhone As Crowning Achievement? Um, Hel-lo? (http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2007/06/28/AR2007062802297.html)
By the way, you need not register to read articles on the Washington Post website. If your'e not registered, when you click on the link, you'll get a long URL with two h-t-t-p addresses. Simply remove the first one and click on the remaining link. Example:
Start with
http://www.washingtonpost.com/ac2/wp-dyn?node=admin/registration/register&destination=login&nextstep=gather&application=reg30-print&applicationURL=http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2007/06/28/AR2007062802297.html
and shorten it to
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2007/06/28/AR2007062802297.html
before clicking. You should go right on through.

It should be pretty cool but if you think about it, Apple basically took everything that was already available, revamped it in their own way and added a huge touchscreen. If i had cingular i would most likely pick one up, but i have the feeling that they may have a lot of problems to start.

and I can do everything this can do on my blackjack without the touch screen. Anyway, people were camping out for this thing at some places. The store where I work has another location, and they couldn't even open up today because there were too many people camped out near the cingular store next to it.
My friend is going to get one/was supposed to get one, so I'll check that out when I get a chance. I read a couple reviews on it (local newspaper), and apparently the OS is really slow, and it lags a bunch with the touchscreen. It is still pretty cool none the less, and if someone offered to buy me one, I'd probably take it.

i'm going to a Sweet 16 party tonight, and i was trying on my pants this morning and realized they didn't fit. so i rused over to the mall to buy new ones and i saw the apple store. they had all the windows covered with black paper, and there was a massive line of people winding through the mall.

in all honsety, who really wants a touch screen that badly? It's just an accident waiting to happen. You have the problem of locking and unlocking it, It scratches really easily, its a non-flip phone which creates more problems. Personally I don't think its really that great of a phone. For 600$ I could buy myself a Sidekick and a bigger Ipod and still save money on the plan.

I'm sure if you are gonna drop all that money on a phone, you are gonna buy a case that you'll be able to use the touch screen through, so that will take away all the oil off of the touch screen, as well as making it less suspect to scratches.

8GB memory...that is like my ipod mini...
8gb-$149
Handheld TV-$50
Internet-$33/month
Phone-$0.10/minute...
You do the math...Apple advertises them as the best thing since sliced bread, when in reality, it is an overpriced cell phone, that cost pennies on the dollar to make.
Everybody saying its going to revolutionize technology, they're wrong, it is just making it look different and its by (Cr)Apple...It's nothing new and nothing special, just another way Apple is getting into other parts of technology and sucking everyones money up.

I'm pretty sure there were phone models like that out years before the iphone. Its just a big hype because its made by apple. IMO, I don't really like the apple products, they tend to stick to one strict thing and not be universal. IE. only a handful of programs that work on the pc work on the mac. Iphone uses at&t (which no one uses)
I stick a 4gb memory stick into my phone and voila, 4gb of memory + all the other phone goodies.
-edit read a post and its really funny because they guy asked the mayor what about the 200 murders (we hit that point I think 1 or 2 days ago) out there and your waiting in line for an ipod.

Its pretty ridiculous that so many people are there that they need FEDERALLY FUNDED POLICEMEN to make sure the stores don't erupt in a riot.
If something like this is known to happen, hire extra security for crying out loud, don't make my tax dollars work as child control at the local ipod store because of a bunch of Apple fanatics.
I hate the fact that so many people go bananas over these things...it's a phone. Not eternal salvation in Ice Cream Sundae Heaven...stupid people, just a bunch of sheep. Which is funny because Apple prides themselves of being such an independent store, when in reality, these people are nothing better than sheep following the leader.

I just got back from camping outside an REI store (Recreational Equipment Inc.) as they do a "garage sale" about once every 4 months and this one was crazy! Got there at 11:30 at night and they open at 10:00 the next morning... I got a backpacking tent for $75 (normally $175), 2 pairs of REI Spirit 3 Boots for $35 and $30 each (normally $190) and a thermarest pad for $20 (normally $100). an REI Talus backpack for $35 (normally $70) and an Ex-Officio button up white fly fishing shirt for $20 (normally $55). So you can see, it is worth camping out if you want the items really bad or need them for summer camping.
Maybe these people just really needed an iPhone to be in with the people who have the most expensive gadget/toy and to "keep up with the Joneses"...

the phone isn't the thing that is so revolutionary while it still is it is mostly the favt that apple will controll the service and such for example when you buy a sidekicj it is activated in the store meanwhile the stores can't activate the i phone you have to activate it onnline with apple. essentially what apple is doing is giving more control to the manufacturer as opposed to the provider which is an incredibly ingenius idea of them

yeah, that basically sums it all up. It's a good phone (~300), an 8gb flash ipod (~250-300), a PDA (~200?) and dont forget it runs basically like a laptop because of the friendly UI (Priceless) If I bought one I would just sell all my other stuff. It's cheaper/easier than buying 3 different devices and carrying them all around. Too bad verizon and apple will never team up because verizon won't carry it unless it supports their OS and apple won't allow them to cripple it.

How exactly is this going to revolutionize anything?
It revolutionizes every phone out there right now. There are over 200 new patents on iphone. The main ones:
1) Visual Voicemail
2) combination of an ipod with a phone
3) Cover flow
4) A real internet - Other phones have internet on it, but the internet is "fake". Iphone is the first phone ever with this quality internet.
5) When you go to the store to buy iphone, it is like buying any other ipod. You just go to the cash register and pay. You don't set up the phone there. When you get home you set it up on your computer. This makes it easier to customize features.
6) Widgets. Iphone is running Mac OSX, which means you get widgets on your phone.
7) This is the first phone ever with multi-touch. You navigate the phone with your fingertip. No keys or stylus.
There are 7 ways of how iphone revolutionizes the phone industry.

i have not read the other posts, so I'm just gonna put my opinion up
granted, the phone in itself is pretty frickin sweet, but there is little practicality in the phone itself, I mean, what is it, 600 for 4 GB and 800 for 6 GB? good lord I got a 30 GB video iPOD for 200, and I carry it around with me all the time, I've got my cell phone too, a generic AT&T flip phone that is actually really nice, together they cost less than 300 dollars
granted the screen on the iphone is crucial and can display whole pages, but how much does it cost to display those pages or retrieve that information, I give cool points to people who buy them, because they are so awesome, but in my mind they lose common sense points as well, because its not exactly the best buy available

I already flushed $600 worth of ipods down the drain in the last six months, they all broke down without dropping, water damage or whatsoever.
I'll go for a HTC touch: cheaper, technologically more advanced and without the tacky unstable software that iphones use.
Steve Jobs can blow me.

i have not read the other posts, so I'm just gonna put my opinion up
granted, the phone in itself is pretty frickin sweet, but there is little practicality in the phone itself, I mean, what is it, 600 for 4 GB and 800 for 6 GB? good lord I got a 30 GB video iPOD for 200, and I carry it around with me all the time, I've got my cell phone too, a generic AT&T flip phone that is actually really nice, together they cost less than 300 dollars
granted the screen on the iphone is crucial and can display whole pages, but how much does it cost to display those pages or retrieve that information, I give cool points to people who buy them, because they are so awesome, but in my mind they lose common sense points as well, because its not exactly the best buy available
its actually 500 for 4gb and 600 for 8 gb

I think that the Iphone is beautifully designed. Apple was meticulous about making sure everything flowed and was as easy to use as their computers are. There are also some amazing features with this phone. I just don't see it having practical use as a cell phone. I am bewildered by people that sit outside the stores waiting for this phone when they probably have no real need for it. I can see some of the features being usefull to them but not the whole iphone. That's how I see it.

It seems like a cool gadget, but it has two major flaws: The price tag and the touch screen, which will get gross, greasy, and oily in, oh, two days.

1) You're not going to wash your hands before you use it everytime. Eventually it will get gross.
2) It's an electronic device. You don't douse electronics in water if you want them to work again.
i never said anything about dousing it in water
did i??
the iphone is not going to explode if u wipe he screen down witha damp cloth everyone in a while , that way the sceen won't get "dirty and oily in 2 days"
most people hands arent covered with dirt and oil 24/7
i didnt say put it into a bucket of water , the glass screen will not be effected by a little water
the iphone is cool

Bumping this up, who got one.
My parents go two 8 GB's iPhones while I was at camp. It is completely worth the price. The iPod feature is actually better than the iPod itself, using the internet is very easy, the phone is cool. It has a heat sensor(like the ipod scroll wheel) on the top, so when you put the phone against your ear the screen turns off and when taken off the screen turns right back on.
The camera is pretty good, its 2 MP but it could have some more features.
The iPhone is worth the price.

i still find it awesome that apple got owned by Sisco. When the iPod came out sisco had there thinking caps on and they immediately patented the name "iPhone" with a crap online phone product. Sisco banked hardcore off of it.

i love the phone but im becoming increasingly annoyed with the keypad. quite frankly, its not very intuitive to make the keys smaller than the average-sized finger. i guess i could just have fat fingers. anythings possible.
question: can you manually update the iPod component or do you have to sync it everytime? if you cant manually manage playlists and songs, than this is my only other major complaint. everything else is phenomenal.

#2. The iPhone is running a downgraded version of OS X. What you get on your iPhone is not what you get on your MacBook.
Well, yeah. But a downgraded version of OS X is a million times better than any crippling OS I have ever seen on a phone.
So you manipulate it with your fingers instead of a stylus. Big deal. As far as I'm concerned, all that means is that your screen gets greasy, oily, scratched up and otherwise nasty that much quicker.
so you take your shirt and wipe it off. My cellphone screen gets greasy. I take my shirt, rub the screen with it, and it's clean. why would it get scratched sooner? unless you have little tiny pebbles in your fingers...
you just seem like you dont want to like it.
edit: damn, i had a lot more written but managed to delete it.

thats just a picture of what people thought apple was going to come out with. everyone thought that apple would release a cell phone and a touch screen ipod. instead, apple released a touch screen phone that could act as an ipod. so there is no touch screen ipod coming out for a while. maybe next year.
anyway, i wanted to get an iphone really bad, but its so expensive and ive got verizon and i wouldve had to pay for part of the service. i probably would have bought one if the contracts for it were cheaper than $60 a month. but im just gonna wait for verizon to release an answer. supposedly, verizon is working with a secret manufacturer and are releasing an answer to the iphone later this summer.

even if they do release the 6G ipod, that would be stupid because what gigo said i don't think that apple would screw their customers like that. even if they do, i don't care, it may cool and all, but it would probably cost alot of money and you probably have never used an Iphone... besides, the 6G ipod wouldn't do everything that the iphone is able to do, even if it can run OSX or whatever, it doesn't have the main element... the phone part. thats the only reason why i bought the iphone, IT HAS EVERYTHING IN ONE. the 6G ipod won't have a phone, it won't have emails, or text messages, it will just be a cool music/video player. otherwise, iphone takes the rest.

etowahlax, i don't think you understand, why would want a 6G ipod, when you can basically get the same thing with a phone, internet device, GPS, weather, stocks, phone, text messaging, etc. etc. so whats the point of a 6G ipod? iphone beats it, its already an ipod with music and video capabilities, also, it has youtube and such. nah, 6G ipod would be a stupid move on apple's part, at least not until christmas, or after christmas. and even then... who would buy it? when they can get an iphone?
I guess the only reason is, if you have to switch to AT&T then you might not get the iphone, but other then taht... getting a 6G ipod would be a waste.

Yes, it has succeeded as a device, but the storage is just too little for people to use it as a serious MP3 player.
True, true, but 8GB a good size, it can hold 2,000 songs, i mean, if you want a serious MP3 player, then obviously go with the ipod, but i don't know to many people that have over 1,500 songs. seriously. i only have about 300 songs, and (i don't know for sure, just my opinion, and my guess) but not many other people have over 2,000 songs. so the iphone is great for their uses. and its great for mine. It seems that you have over 2,000, so you may not like/want it because it can't hold as much as you would like it too. BUT its the ONLY phone with a somewhat-serious ipod feature in it. If you were to get a phone with some type of MP3, the iphone would be the best choice. I understand where you are coming from, but i think that for most people, it works out fine. But my info. is coming from friends and family, i'm not sure on other people, but some of my friends who are real music buffs, only have 1200 songs. Just because, you don't need that many songs! And if you do, then only download your favorite songs on your iphone... i mean... i don't know. whatever.
Lacrosse4life31
07-19-2007, 08:53 PM
true it wouldn't work for you lol.
but it works for me, and i'm happy with it lol. i have 300 songs, and 4 chappelle shows, 500 photos, and alot of emails and text message conversations, and i still have 5GB left to do whatever i want.
but i do agree, they should make like a 12GB Iphone, that would be sweet.
I like my iphone alot because it shows videos and photos in great quality, and plays the music flawlessly. i don't know, but i'm hooked. the first day i got it, i played with it for 9 hours straight without putting it down.
i use it to email and text and call people more than listen to music--but don't get me wrong, i listen to music alot, just i like my 300 songs, i'm picky when it comes to music. Either that, or i'm just not exposed to enough different types of stuff.
oh well, it works for me and i lilke it, its a bummer that it wouldn't work out for you. its really a nice device.

CAUTION: This video may make you cry, as it displays the stupidity which runs rampant through our society.
That was freaking awesome! I had to watch it twice.
That glutton got what she deserved...
someone is just upset they cant afford one
Its not so much not being able to afford one, it is the hype and how Apple tries to convince the masses that you can't live without one.
When will you use the internet? When you're sitting on the bus? No, because if you have one, you most likely don't ride the bus.
Waiting for someone? Maybe, but will you get your money's worth?
I bet there is a huge contract breaking fee if you choose to leave their special yuppie club.
For me...I won't buy one. Don't need it. Don't want it. I'm fine with a phone I've had for 3 years (yes, they last a long time if you take care of them), my dying iPod mini (will be replaced though), my DESKTOP PC (not a Mac), my 3.2 mega pixel digital camera, and my good high speed comcast internet.
The iPhone has been made out to be something that you absolutely need which is far from the truth.
Bottom line. Don't bank too much on new technology, the stupid woman did and is:
A. $800 lighter ($1400 if you count the phone in her expenses)
B. Stupid for thinking that she could buy off some persistent kid and then proceed to buy out the store leaving everyone else to just sit there holding their balls.

true, i bet a bunch don't, i have to pay for mine, its $20 a month. i make $400 a month-it's not that big of a deal.
oh, if you are wondering what i do to make that much money. I mow lawns. yep, i get $20 a lawn, i have 5 lawn jobs that i do every saturday, it takes me 3hours to do all of them. But don't get me wrong, i put alot into savings, i'm just sayin, i have a job and i work and i pay for my stuff. Also, my birthday was july 14 so i got a bunch of b-day money and thats how i paid for my iPhone.
remember, if your an existing AT&T customer such as myself, the iPhone costs $20 a month, which comes with 400 minutes (which is fine, since i been with them, i have a bunch of roll over minutes, i have about 200000 minutes, so i don't really care, i just go with the cheapest plan). i get 200 text messages, and unlimited everything else. nah, its a great deal.

i work at a computer repair shop, and i've (so far) seen 4 iphones that came fubar'd. the screen detatched etc
5 already cracked from user abuse
and 1 that was more or less exploded.
all of which were scratched pretty heavily already considering how long they had been out at the time.

I agree 100% with you. I don't understand why people are going crazy over this new technology, it's like they must have it. There's plenty of phones that do the almost exact same thing as the iPhone, but they just don't have the Apple name. By the way, I also agree Golden Eye is the best FPS ever, hands down. I actually went to rural NC the other day and saw 2 Nintendo 64s that were on the shelves probably returned about a decade ago.

I'm seriously thinking about getting one. For previous users...if you had a chance to return your iphone + all the money you've spent on the plan...would you? Or do you think the iphone was as much as you hoped/wanted it to be?

Here is my IPHONE. I set it on the hood of my friends car and it slipped off. I did not have a case on it:bawling: :crying: Everything works fine though:thumbsup: I bought a film that you can put over it so that stopped the shards of glass going into my fingers.

For everyone saying the iphone will fail, in the 1st quarter that they started selling iphones, it was the number 2 leading smart phone seller in the country. They have also sold wayy more than expected, averaging 20,000 iphones sold each day.
