Because private schools dont have to follow the rules.

Of course they follow the rules! However, since Privates are internally funded, they get to WRITE the rules they diligently follow.

A public school can go varsity, but they must do several things:
1. Get the approval of the principal and the AD
2. Develop a booster club that will provide 100% of the costs associated with the team. You will get nothing from the school because their budget is limited.
3. Provide their own insurance through US Lacrosse or some other source.
4. Provide field space from some other source other than the school, because spring football, soccer, and flag football will get 1st choice. Try your local parks.
5. Everything will have to be confirmed and put in writing that you have fields and $'s and these will need to be long term commitments(3-5 years).
6. Get approval from your state/county high school athletic association
7. Good Luck!!

Gee whiz, if this is what your varsity teams have to provide, what is the difference in being a club team. "Varsity" means "school sponsored."
