Now before I get a lot of comments about how dumb of a question this is, just stay with me. I'm not new to lacrosse, but I am new to the world of stringing. Could someone list and explain the different variations of mesh? It would be much appreciated.
What is jimalax anyway?

1st- jimalax is a very good stringing provider. they sell bulk strings as well as kits. id suggest getting any string stuff you want there.
meshes- you will find these in most peoples sticks. they provide a good mix of control, power, and accuracy
-traditional hard mesh- you reg hard 10 diamond mesh. youve prolly seen or had it at one time
-traditional soft mesh- the same as hard mesh only w/o the plastic coating. this mesh tend to shrink in the rain.
diamond meshes- these have larger diamond and tend to be very stiff. they have more power and accuracy that trad mesh, but are hard to break in and do not have as smooth of a release.
-8 diamond- the smallest of the diamond meshes. it has 8 diamonds, as opposed to the trad hard mesh that has 10. this adds more power and increased accuracy
-midmonster (7 diamond)- a little more control than 8 diamond but a less smooth release
-6 diamond- the most popular diamond mesh. a good mix of the control and power. commonly sold by warrior but can be bought at jimalax
-monstermesh(5 diamond) this is the first diamond mesh. it has a lot of contorl and power but is very hard to string and has poor release.
other meshes- these are what i call "alternative meshes" they can all be bought only at jimalax for the most part
-minimesh- this is 20 diamond mesh. it has okay control and moderate power, but the real point of it is a very smooth release. it also breaks in very easily
-american mesh- this is super thick soft mesh. it provides the advantages of soft mesh, but in a more durable, westher resistant pocket.
-cataplution mesh- super thick hard mesh. this provide a more durable, weather resistant pocket.
hope that help.

Thanks, one last question.
Sidewall vs. Cross lace ?

side wall is just that; sidewall lace. you use it to attach the mesh or pocket nylon to the sidewalls.
pocket nylon is the stuff that makes up a traditional pocket. it ia the diamond like shapes you see in trad a pocket

Ahh the thicker stuff. It all makes sense now. :)

Sidewall is thicker than crosslace? Wow, I feel dumb. Is it a major difference? Sticks are usually strung with both right?

Crosslace is the lace that is used to make the traditional and traditional-varient pockets. Sidewall string is used as an anchor to attatch mesh or crosslace to the head.

and crosslace is also used as narrow shooting strings right?

you could use that, but i use sidewall for the nylon shooters (which i almost never use)

if you really want to feel the difference of crosselace and sidewall or you want to see the colors of some mesh or kinds i suppose, Jimalax will gladly send you some sample if you ask. I asked and got samples. For example, I asked to know if they had any girl shooters (larger than crosslace) and they said they did and sent me enough to do like 50 sticks with. Basically they have awsome customer service ask any questions with them about their stuff and they answer it asap.

Here's the basic types of string
Far left: crosslace
Mid left: sidewall
Mid right: the "fatter" shooters that lilaxgurl was talking about
Far right: the sidewalls that come with a jimalax kit (the kit also comes with the regular ones too)

different meshes also perform differently in different heads. In my personal experience, monstermesh does great (that's brine's 5-d) in cybers and wizards especially, but not so great in something like a nitrous. I had an x2 with a great 6d pocket, but I couldn't get it to do anything good in my torque. Also, with more pinched heads, the larger diamonds do significantly less anyway. The catpultion and american/canadian certainly last longer and are very strong, but they also slow release a bit, particularly the catapultion. I put cataplution in my torque and hated it, but loved it when I went back to regular hardmesh. Regular hardmesh is usually the way to go if you're unsure, it works in most anything.

Picture your standard 10d mesh, now double the thickness and stiffness, that's what the catapultion is like.
