Yeah lets try to get a ton of people to watch it. But I dont think turning on multiple tv's in one house would do anything for the ratings. It still counts as one household. Or am I wrong? If they count it per tv then yeah I'll turn all of mine on, you do the same!

I dont think it will hurt to put multiple tvs on?? Try to remind your friends using AIM, MySpace, Facebook or Mass text message - whatever means necessary!
It should be a sick game...We need more lax on the tube!

My wife and I had a discussion a few nights ago about peoples' misinformation regarding television ratings. Unfortunately, it doesn't matter who is watching the game, unless you are a Nielsen house.
From Wikipedia:
Nielsen Television Ratings are gathered by one of two ways; by extensive use of surveys, where viewers of various demographics are asked to keep a written record (called a diary) of the television programming they watch throughout the day and evening, or by the use of Set Meters, which are small devices connected to every television in selected homes. These devices gather the viewing habits of the home and transmit the information nightly to Nielsen through a "Home Unit" connected to a phone line.
You should watch the game anyway, though :)

So how many homes are Nielsen homes? Does Nielson work with major television companies like Comcast to get ratings, because otherwise, where would ratings come from?

Its a random sampling of households that is supposed to represent a general cross section of American television viewers. Its about as accurate as random phone polling. Nielsen sucks, but it pretty much determines what we watch.
