View Full Version : Are there better fans anywhere?

On their July 4th game, the Denver Outlaws beat the Machine in front of a new-all-time-attendance-record- setting crowd of 19,793.

The Mammoth fill or nearly fill the Pepsi Center on most occasions.

DU built a stadium specifically for their lacrosse team and they get great crowds. With CU and CSU doing so well at the club level, it may not be long before they do the same.

With Denver being perceived as a smaller or medium-sized market (fewer fans to service pro sports teams), how can it be that we get the largest crowds? It's easy, Denver and Colorado Fans are the best around!!

I'm talking specifically about lacrosse fans but the argument could be made for fans in general.

Think about it, what's the last pro/semi-pro-team to go under here in Denver? Maybe our USFL team. Did we ever have a WNBA team??:) I just wish this city would put the Rockies out of their misery.

Wait a minute, we're not talking about the "scariest" fans. I'll hand it to you though, you guys do make a mean cheese-steak.

You need to check out those science books you're reading.

1. the earth is not flat

2. we revolve around the sun - not the other way around

3. and evolution happens - just like Denver has evolved into the best lax city.

Puh, books. I was never one for reading or science. I disagree with you saying Denver is The "best" lax city. Baltimore tops Denver.

Every City can make a claim that they have the best fans. What makes Denver fans better then Philly fans? Just because there are more of them does not necessarily mean they are better. If you say "What city has the most Fan Support in lacrosse?" Then you could make a very strong case for Denver.

Look, we need to define what makes one fan better than another. If "most likely lynch an opposing fan" were the criteria, Philly fan would have it hands down. (Although, I do have to say, I've seen many a cocky Raider fan disappear in a sea of orange after opening their mouth one too many times during intermissions at Bronco games.)

I think it comes down to which fans are interested enough, and willing to pay their hard earned money on their team. I understand why Philly fan is angry. I'd be pissed-off too if I had to live there.

By the way, why is Philly the only city commenting on this? Is this an Iverson thing?

I'll argue.

Nebraska Cornhuskers College football

Stadium Capacity- 84,067

Consecutive home game sellouts- 282.

Sellout Streak has been goin' since 1962, Longest of any team in any sport.

Maybe for pro lacrosse. But not for sports in general. Having traveled to philly for a couple different games with my uncle i would say they are pretty damn good fans.

It's because there's nothing to compete with it, other than the lamo Rockies

if you wanna argue football.. look at Penn state, Michigan (both over 100,000 people and State College turns into the 3rd largest city in PA on game day) and Notre Dame (as over 80,000 per game I think its like 86 some but im not sure..)

The Mammoth play during the same time as the Avalanche and Nuggets play. The Avs pull possibly the best attendance in the NHL and the Nuggets have great crowds.

If I had my way, Colorado would sell the Rockies and the Outlaws would call Coors Field home!

Why can't we just get along and accept the facts as they are?

Read my post bro. Sellout streak.... Penn State and Notre Dame don't sellout every game every season. Neither does Michigan... We fill the stadium every game, no matter where it is.

And Memorial Stadium in Lincoln turns into the 3rd largest city in Nebraska as well behind Omaha and Lincoln. Beats out Beatrice, which has a population of 74 thousand.

I know the ownership of the Broncos give out lacrosse tickets like they are candy there, I think that might be part of why they get crowds like they do there.

Also, the July 4th game is the day of a major tournament in Denver.

Michigan also has the largest stadium seating a massive 107,501, compared to Nebraska's 81,067... That's slightly over 23,000 fan different in stadium. So, feel cool that you can sell out, we probaly still have an average attendance => yours.

101, I'm not sure of your position here. The major tournament is in Vail and runs through the 4th of July. It seems to me that with a large contingent of our lacrosse fans attending our biggest annual tournament, it's even more impressive that the record was set on that day.

As far as Pat Bowlen giving out free tickets to fans, I haven't heard anything about that. I've been to a number of games and I have had to pay for all my tickets.

It is my belief that a lot of people who see a live lacrosse game for the first time get hooked on the sport. So maybe giving out some tickets isn't such a bad idea. The owners make a lot of money on parking and concessions. With bigger crowds comes more excitement. With more excitement come fans buying tickets to future games. Besides, you can't tell me some of these other markets would pull Denver's attendance numbers by simply handing out tickets.

The crowds at Mammoth and Outlaw games are made up of a majority of younger people (high-school, college and mid 20's and 30's). The foundation is being built for decades of strong support.

There's plenty to do in Colorado, this isn't Lincoln. I-70 is packed with cars going into the mountains through both summer and winter.

We all have much to thank to the "Back-East" cities who brought this sport into the public eye.

But it's time to give Denver and all of Colorado their due. This state loves lacrosse!

Denver/Colorado is surprisingly good with going to lacrosse games. I think they deserve a quarterfinal round NCAA game. I lived in Baltimore for six years and was shocked at how low attendence was for Thunder/Bayhawks games. Considering how many laxers there are in Baltimore, they are really apathetic.

Eat your heart out, Baltimore!

35 years of the Vail Shootout, attendance records and packed crowds, youth participation quadupled over the last five years. Baltimore losing the Bayhawks is icing on the cake, and is a sign of where the sport is going.

Going into the 2005 season, Lambeau Field has been sold out every game for 45-straight years. The streak began with the 1960 season opener against the Chicago Bears, and the current waiting list for season tickets stands at 67,542 people... just to let the nebraska feller know
