I recently needed a new head. So, when researching, i thought i would give traditional a try. I've I thought I pretty much mastered how to keep proper maintenance with my past 2 mesh heads (six diamond and dura), so i thought i was prepared to use a traditional head.

So, i bought a traditional nitrous. Before doing anything with the head, i adjusted the strings to put it with little whip (or how i was taught to), and i adjusted the pocket to a good depth (i like deep pockets).

However, when trying the head out, it had the most whip i have ever dealt with. I thought i needed to loosen up my strings a little bit..more whip. I then thought i needed to tighten them...even more whip. I couldnt figure out what in the world is wrong with my head. I figured that the pocket is too deep, so i shrunk it a reasonalbe ammount, but i havent thrown around with that yet

Any tips on traditional stick maintenance?

Make sure your top shooter is the tightest and the bottom one is the loosest. On all of my tradtional sticks i use three straight hockey laces and one nylon shooter at the top. This provides a deep pocket with no whip. If you do what i just said make sure that the nylon shooter is really tight and then string your shooters.

my head doesnt have any nylon shooters..its just 3 hockey laces.

and yea i was taught to put the top hockey lace the tighest and the bottom lace the loosest...but what about the middle lace? should it be not too loose not too tight?

originally, with a deep pocket, 3 laces, the top 2 tight and the bottom one loose it had a TON of whip

make the middle one a little tight, but not tight like the top one. Also make sure the top one isn't too close to the pocket. I personally put my top shooter very high up in the head. The bottom one should be loose, but not that loose, the middle one tighter, and the top on the tightest. THe idea to remember is that you don't want the ball to have to jump the shooters. So if you make the bottom one loose and the next one tight, the ball will get caught between the two and have to jump to get over the tight one, causing a bad release. You want the shooters to get tighter so that they make the mesh get gradually tighter, and the ball exits smoothly
