in light of all the threads for each individual mll team i decided to make a cannons one. anything about them belongs in this thread. what do you guys think there playoff chances are. id say its about 30%. there definenetly gonna beat the machine later today but than they have to play the rattlers lizards and rattlers again:sad: . theyll have to win 2 of their final 3 to at least have a chance.

for everyone who doesnt know the cannons are 4-5

I think the playoff push assuming they beat Chicago w/ come down to what they can do against Rochester the following week

goodbye playoffs. o my god, kip turner was a trainwreck. was coon hurt or did they just start him because they assumed theyd beat the machine. now they have to go undefeated for a playoff spot.

yeah machine. powell was shut down for pretty much all of the game. the machine team that played tonight was a team that nobody had seen before. had ianucci been there it might not have been as close

That was a great game. Christmas didnt seem to be himself at all, and it kinda seemed as if Powell decided he wanted a goal, he was going to get one.

Machine played well, Leveille is a freak, that game winner needs to make top 10.

tough loss for the Cannons.
looks like they will need to run the table to make the playoff.

I didn't see the game but giving up 19 to Chi isn't good at all

At this point, it might not be such a great idea for the Cannons to make the playoffs. Their just to inconsistent to have a chance at the Championship, so maybe just getting a high draft pick would be better this year. Maybe I'm too into this tanking idea after following the Celtics, but with a top 5 pick, they could pick up a top defender, something they need after shoring up the midfield through trades.

they should do that and get cocoziello. theyll probably end up at 4-8 anyway so they dont even have to tank.

Coon had a prior commitment booked in for months apparently, think it said in "cannon fodder" a couple of weeks ago.

cant really complain about mikey's output, leading the team in points, but i get the feeling from all the comment that the balance isnt there in the offence, whether its a case of too many similar style players or what i dont know

disappointed with inconsistency, but always have the sneaking suspicion that they will explode on a 5/6 week run and take the championship (honest)

ok, so with the recent loss to the Rattlers, the Cannons now stand at 4-5 and most likely will miss the playoffs. So what do you think they should do in the draft? I think they'll probably get a pick in the top 5 and should probably use it on a defenseman as that is where they most need help at this point. Their attack is where they are strongest, having Powell, Christmas, and David Mitchell who is fitting in quite nicely. I also think the midfield is pretty set with Drew Thompson, D.J. Andrzejewski, Bucktooth, Poskay, and guys like Pfarr and Mucciolo as transition players. The defense is the one place where they really need one more shutdown guy. If they do get a great defensemen, I think it will make them a more consistent team. This year, their offense clearly would create points, but the defense has to stop the other team from scoring to win. With a strong defense of Passavia, Megill, whoever they draft, and McElduff and Colbert, they should be in prime position to make a strong playoff run.

it depends on the pick, i feel we need a middie who can dodge from up top with ease like rabil because the whole offense is run by mikey dodging from up top or christmas from a wing. idk i feel we annitiate too much against poles and we need a dodging middie and we also need a close d. so if rabil or danowski (i kno not a middie) is still up for grabs take them. they will be stars in the league if not go with a dman

ya i agree, but I was looking at them possibly getting maybe the fifth pick where Rabil and Danowski will probably be gone. But if either of those players is still available where the Cannons pick, I agree you can't pass that up.

poskay, buctooth, zummo, defilice, thompson, andrewjski ,dougherty, muccilo we have the midfield, defense is where we have nothing. We got ray megill in this draft and hehas done well, but we need 1 more defensive superstar like passavia as megill gets more experience. id look to get a top player in general and setup a trade with another team for a experienced defensemen.

I've got a question. For anyone that's been to a lot of Cannons games, how's Drew Thompson doing? I didn't get to see much of last nights game, and he only has 1 assist on the year. Is he playing well? Or not really? I thought he would be a really good middie as he is so versatile and played pretty well at Virginia.

I didn't see much of him (if any at all) during the Rochester game. He must be playing pretty quietly or not much at all.

Drew Thompson looks a bit small out there when he gets into the game. He really doesn't excel at one thing on the field at that level. It is also a pretty big adjustment to MLL. It is telling too that the Cannons grabbed two middies at the deadline.

The biggest difference I see this year is no Chris Garrity. Coon is ok, but he can't steal a win for you, There were games last season that the Cannons won because of Garrity

The last home game was a great game. But w/ only one game to go what about next year?

Attack should be ok. Mikey Powell is having a great season and is as good as advertised. Christmas was solid again. It was a great move putting Poskay at attack for the last game. He is a great finisher

As far is midfield goes maybe some improvements need to be made. Bucktooth was solid all season. Zummo looks like he will be a solid lefty player
The d/faceoff crew also looks good w/ Jenkins, DeFelice.

Maybe some depth at d. Although I was really impressed w/ Ray Megil. Great athlete that can really play transition.

What about goalie? Coon or Turner?

Is there any way the Cannons can acquire Casey Powell?

were set at middie (see JLLOMMER's post) and attack with mikey, christmas, and david mitchell. the only problem is i think mikey and christmas should pass more. mitchell, bucktooth, and poskay's point totals are almost completely made up of goals. mp and christmas are both about half and half, but there's already a bunch of goal scorers on the cannons.

we need defense. i want them to get one of these guys with their first round pick:

1:tony mcdevitt
2:dan cocziello
3:jerry lambe
4: nick o hara

I still think they need a middie or two that can draw the double and dish. Poskay and Bucktooth are eawesome finishers.

I still like the idea of trading for Casey Powell.

Another dman would work as well.

Defiently not. Gill is arguably one of the best attackmen of all time. Mikey's good at tricks but gill hustled and put everything on the line. Mikey is not willing to do that in my eyes

Plus the Cannons also have Washington's 1st rounder which is looking like a 6th overall pick

hopefully you have changed your mind on powell
He has been massive this year

Gill may be a more rounded player. He may be bigger and stronger. But Mikey Powell is a lacrosse god. First off games at boston are packed with tons of fans, far more than just about every other team, and every fan is in love with powell. He needs a handful of body guards around him when he signs autographs. This is good because this is exactly what the league needs, recognizable players, plus I think Mikey is def better regardless.

oh I completely forgot about that. So they could potentially have back-to-back picks with the 5th and 6th. I think they should try and trade one of them and another player and try and get a top two pick. I'm thinkin' maybe the 6th pick and Drew Thompson to the Dragons for their probable number two pick and maybe a third rounder or so. That way they could pick up Paul Rabil and then get a solid defensemen like Coco or McDevitt with their second pick. But this is all wishful thinking and probably wouldn't go down.

when i went to the mll all star game everybody loooved mikey. he got like twice as much applause when he came out of the locker room.

and now that ive found out they have 2 1st rounders... im intrigued...

they should trade up but i dont think san fran wants drew thompson, but another middie than wed get rabil and coco. niiiiicce.
