ok,
so i was reading about 5d mesh on here and how its supposed to have some crazy good hold. so, being a defenseman, i was interested, and ordered 2 mesh pieces from jimalax to try it out. (they sent me 3 though, cool, but off-topic)
so after stringing it up (the orange tutorial) on a proton+, and breaking it in for a few weeks, im really not liking it.
it does have the crazy hold... but no two throws are alike, some go good, some whip, some go left. i have a target on a wall, and i cant seem to hit the thing a few times consecutively. (which i can easily on the same stick with 6d)
does it sound like i did something wrong? or is that just how 5d goes? anybody else have similar situation?

a general rule ive heard is more diamonds more accurate/less hold, and less diamonds less accurate/more hold
pics would also be helpful

I tried stringing some 5D using Orange's tutorial and didn't like it either b/c of inconsistency also. I would suggest doing a normal topstring(not Oranges), interlock the sidewalls so they don't slide around, and use rolled shooters because weaved ones can move around inside the large diamonds, especially if they are loose.

I don't use oranges tut, just interlock with all my broken in 5d and it all throws great.

I love 5D (It's the only mesh I use), and I don't have any problems with it at all. I used to have problems with inconsistency, but now I can string it so it works perfectly.

I only use 5 D and had the exact same problem with stringing it in a Proton Power. I strung up two Clutches, several Edges and a few Nitrouses in the same way I did the PP and they all threw/throw on point. I think it may be a matter of using the 5 D in a forward cant head (and just the way I string 'em up, not like Oranges at all). If you have a Warrior or Brine sitting around it would be interesting to give string one up and see if there is a difference.

Don't use Orange's tut for that. String it with interlocking so it's consistent as possible.

8d hard mesh is the way to go for attack/midfield. For defensemen i'm not sure of the mesh but put many shooter's

ok, so i re-strung it up with interlocking sidewalls, and i did the bottom string differently. it is definitely a lot more consistent now, and throws MUCH better. thanks guys.
new question though. would a 6 diamond pocket with "normal" sidewall stringing have more hold than a 5d pocket with interlocking sidewalls???
my guess would be that the 6 diamond would be better for that, any ideas if my complete guess is right?

ok... last 5d question before i decide that im gonna really start using it full time...
the stick will have a perfectly legal pocket with some room to spare... but after about 20min of wall ball, the whip kicks in, and i look at the stick to see that the pocket is illegally deep.
is that 5d? or does it just need more breaking in?

I've found that it tends to stretch out over time and have to tighten the sidewalls on occasion. It should be fine after that.

its probably the stringing, no offence to orange but his 5d tut is not the best

then don't use it. It's worked fine for hundreds of other people.
