After thinking about this, I wondered why other teams dont jump in on this. If you make a jr.Pride or jr.Cannons. The summer tournies would have greater compettion. Then if there were teams like the jr.dragons and riptide it would expand the sport out west.

What exactly are you talking about? Do the Lizards have a youth team? If so, then there are already plenty of youth teams, and not much of a reason for MLL teams to create them. But it would be cool to have a junior MLL for incredibly good kids.

The jr.lizards are the premier team on LI. They are sponsered and everything is free. It also opens up a team for kids that dont have the money to spend on certain teams.

I've seen the team play. Not all that great, better than my team, but I've seen better.
Their uniforms/gloves/hemets are sick though.

Yea, good thing you did. They probably will get KILLED at champ camp. I saw there division on the website and it looks like they don't play anyone special. Just like the lax world team and the great Atlantic team.

You seem to no this team pretty well how about getting the facts straight. The divison they played in is u-15 which they are and you being from LI should no that. The week before when they played @ Tri-state they won the u-16B divison beating express north & west u-15 in the process. When they played @ Downington, their 1st tourney together, the lost to the top express u-15 team by a couple of goals. 1/2 the team is 9th and the other half is 7th & 8th. Express goes by grade which can put a team at a disadvantage in some tourneys, but you should take that up with your directors. Don't complain when you play in a u-15 divison and the teams are u-15. The game the express team lost to the LI lizards was a good game and well played by the express. Don't cry when you lose that some kids where not U-14, because the Lizards didn't cry when they lost to Express Orange, who are all 15 & older 15's who could not play in a U-15 divison. You guys brag when you win, try to have some class when you lose.

Don't tell someone their wrong when you're not right, the Lizards played in both the Massapequa tournament and the Metro tourney BEFORE the Downington tourney. The only thing it took to know this was to go to their website (which I see you didn't do) they have also been practicing since Febuary. The JR. Lizards also didn't do A very good job telling people about the considering more than half the kids are from nassau and some have five or six from the same high schools. If they do this again next year and put up a little more publicity for it they could very well be one of the best teams in the country. I know a few kids on the team and they told me that they range from 8th to 10th grade. The first game the played Express Orange 2010 it was 10-0. The second game was the same way for most of the time until a late game break by the Lizards, Express won 8-5.
Don't hold me to this but a kid I know on the Jr. Lizards tod me that next year they were going to have a U13 U15 and U17 all free and that this time there would be a nassau and suffolk tryout and then if you made it there would be a final tryout, similar to what Empire does.

Braves - you really don't have your facts straight either. Based on the US Lacrosse Rules, the Lizards put together a U-15 team. Every kid on the team is U-15 as per the rules set forth by US Lacrosse. In fact, at the Summer Sizzle all of their birth certificates were checked and were fine. The team is made up of players from all over Long Island who are going into 8th, 9th or 10th grade in September.
As for how the team was picked you are also wrong. The Lizards did several e-mail blasts to the LI Lacrosse community and to all coaches about the team. They also ran ads in Newsday for the tryouts. Over 175 kids submitted applications to tryout. The tryout was limited to 120 just like Team USA does. No town has more than 3 players on the team and they are spread out all over Nassau and Suffolk.
This is their first year playing, and for a new team with a mix of different ages, they are doing great for a new team.
Please remember the Junior Lizards were created to play great lacrosse, represent Long Island and their individual schools and towns and have a lot of fun while doing so. The team has really come together and they have become great friends.
It always amazes me how you can never make everyone happy - why so bitter?

I get bitter when people still don't know anything...
I can name kid on the team that are going to be Juniors next year first of all so the whole US lacrosse speech is BS. The aren't just 3 kids from one town Garden city has FIVE kids, Massapequa has 3, and Cold Spring Harbor has 3, and 20 of the 30 kids are from Nassau.
I have nothing against the team, I actualy think its great idea.

I'm not sure who you are implying is going to be a junior, but as Brownlax said the team had it's birth certificates checked @ Summer Sizzle and all were fine. By the way, the game with Orange Express was 5-5 til late in the game, but a loss is a loss. Also your point is well taken about their earlier lose to Express, but it does also show how this team has come together as the summer progressed.

There was a Jr. Riptide team at the Temecula Shootout. They didn't seem that great, but not terrible either.

we (tristate) played the lizards at the tristate tourny they were pretty good, but we could have beaten them if we had played together more than 2 games. Up until the second round of the playoffs, which was like 6 games they had allowed 8 goals, 7 of which were scored by my team over two games.
But as is the norm with long isalnd team, we got cheap shotted left and right, including with 30 seconds left, i heaved a pass downfield and way after i threw it i got crosschecked in the neck from behind.
And at the summer sizzle i got into a scrap with a kid who wasnt happy that he looked like a fool cuz i knocked him on his *** during a ground ball fight. Then he grabbed my stick and i just tried to walk away but he grabbed and then the parents looked like idiots screaming throw him out when he started it.
long story short, most long island players need to grow up and the parents need to get some class and a understanding of the rules and the game of lacrosse. Seriously it gives other LI players a bad rep

The Lizards are the best team I've seen this year, having watched teams in tournaments at Downingtown, TriState, and Summer Sizzle. They play as a team, they're very big, and they all are talented. They're a fun team to watch(if you can tune out their obnoxious parents and coaches).
BUT...after Summer Sizzle we ran into a Lizard at BWI airport who admitted having a 1991 birthdate.
I have two thoughts on this. One, its obviously wrong to play down. Enough has been said about that. No one can justify it. Two, my son will be going against boys 2-3 years older than him in 6 mos when he tries out for his school team. I want him playing bigger, better players/teams. Its the only way you get better.
If this boy was telling the truth, maybe the Lizards use grade requirements, 8-9th graders, to form the team. If a 9th grader was a hold back, he could have a 1991 birthdate.

i know that they are all 15...the point im trying to make is that they dont play in the division that the U-15 orange team plays in b/c they know they will lose....so they play down to win championships...just like U-16B in tri-state where there was a U-16AA and U-16A bracket....U-15 express played in U-16A so the lizards played in U-16B and whiped out ever team.....its not about winnning in these tournaments during the summer...yea its nice to win but you should be concentrated on playing better teams so you get better, U-15A at summer sizzle...come on u basically blew out every team except for my team and the score was 5-2.....but watever ....do wat you want to do.... basically every orange express team plays up

Being from Baltimore this is hard to say, but I do respect the LI Express program. They generally play up, always fundamentally solid, and you know it will be a tough game. (Although one of our players had his ACL crushed at TriState against Orange West 2011)
Its always a good test to play LI Express.

listen laxlerker every kid who flew in BWI airport were some of the youngest kids on our team ALL going into 9th grade. Expresslax20 i respect your team but we beat u 5-2 in a 30 min game that meant everything to you guys u guys wanted it much more. i would love to see you play us in a full varsity game u guys would forfeit at halftime. So what if we get our stuff for free that doesnt mean we are snobby and stuck up we freaking play our asses off like no other team we ride hard we do everything. Express organization you guys have been together for freaking 3 or 4 years this is our first year together. We started off shakey but good enough to come together with the help of our coaching staff. we may seem all intense and stuff but we bond together and we probably have the most team chemistry out of all your express teams. Our first tournament big tournament in downingtown, pa yea we have a tough time playing 2 of the best teams in the country. we lost to express 12-0 in pequa tourney but we were good enough to pull it together and have a close game with them the next time 8-5. We got manhandled by one of the top u-15 teams in the nation in downingtown the northeasterns
13-4 but then last week we pulled it together and beat them 6-5 in a full varsity game with 11 min quarters. NOTE WE ARE YOUNGER THAN THE 2010 ORANGE AND NORTHEASTERNS THEY ARE ALL GOING INTO 10TH HALF OUR TEAM IS GOING INTO 9TH AND ONE GOING INTO 8TH AND THEY AFFECT OUR TEAM GREATLY

You might want to check with the Orange team before you speak for them. U-15 means January 1 1992. There are players older than that, so they can't compete in U-15 divisions. By the way how about the rest of the Express teams at that age, not any good? Way to throw the rest of the club under the bus.

actually this year our express club didnt have U-15 or U-13...they had the year that you graduate in ...so if you are going to graduate in 2011 you try out for the 2011 team...and we didnt "throw the rest of the club under the bus"....we have 3 or 4 teams for each level and orange team is the best...thats why we have tryoutsand coaches select the best kids to be on the orange team......and by the way are you on the greene turtles lax team?

Having officiated several tournaments in different states I had the opportunity to work or watch games played by select teams from NY and other states, my observation is organizations with multiple teams at the same age / grade level do not have similar talent throughout the organization. Once you get past the top level (i.e.Orange Express) team the talent level drops off. The second tier team is somewhat competitive but the remaining teams are no better than a good town rec or PAL team. This goes for most of the age brackets (U13,U14,U15,U16,U17).
On the whole, the explosion of so called select teams is almost a joke, how many "select" players are there really? Players with no real concept of the game, screaming coaches and obnoxious parents .... Lacrosse is rapidly turning into travel soccer...heaven help us!
