Beware, this is a long one!

iPhone

Introduction:
I love my 8 gig iPhone, oh and by the way, it is $20 plus the cost of your line.
example, I have a $10 line, and it costs $20 extra bucks to have unlimited internet, email, everything except text messages. 200 text messages, if you pay $30 you get 1500 text messages, you pay $40, you get unlimited. Basically, I have unlimited everything, with 200 text messages. Then i have 400 minutes, with rollover, i have over 2000 because they just keep adding up. It's not $60 UNLESS your a new customer switching over to AT&T. Other wise it’s $20 plus the line. Yes the phone is expensive, but it’s the better then a Treo, Blackjack, or Blackberry. Yes, I have used them all-iphone beats them hands down.
It can do just about anything you want it too.
I’m 15 years old and I love this thing, I text, email, call people ALL the time, plus I have a video Ipod, GPS system, Stocks (yes, I have invested in stocks so its nice to see what they are everyday and too see the over-time graph!), and weather to all the cities that you want to see--in any part of the world—all in one device!

Features:
The camera feature is cool too-it has the best mobile phone camera out there-I guess the only problem is, it can't take videos. But that’s okay; I never took videos any way. Speaking of camera, the photo albums is great, you can download all of your photos that are saved on your computer from anything--meaning I you can download them from itunes, My Pictures, and other picture-saving spots.

It has one of the longest battery life's out of any mobile phone.

Reception is great; it beats my mom's blackberry, my friend’s blackjack, and my old RAZR BY FAR.

Also, the headphones it comes with are sweet. They have a little button close to where your mouth would be so when you are listening to music and a call is coming in, Iphone will pause the music, have the ring tone go through your headphones and you can click the little button on your headphones once to answer, and the once to hang up and resume playing music, or click it twice to ignore the call and send it to voicemail. There is a small microphone in the headphones button thingy so you can just talk into the little microphone and keep the phone in your pocket! It’s great! Best part is, it’s not crap, and it’s very clear and works great! Also, with the head phones, if you are just listening to music then you can click the button once to pause the music, or twice to skip to the next song. Very useful when you are out running and stuff.

You also have Safari. Which is the Internet. The internet is one of the greatest things on this phone. It looks exactly like on a regular computer. When you pull up Google, it doesn't look like the normal mobile phone-crappy internet, it looks just like you were on the regular internet! This is awesome especially when you are bored in class or something just pull this bad boy out and surf the web. In fact, I have made about 10 posts on TLF from my Iphone.--true story.

The GPS can locate anything in the world; I was recently in Germany and Austria about 3 weeks ago on vacation. I typed in the hotel I stayed at in Berchtesgaden Germany and it showed the location. It was great.

Every time you enter the weather icon it updates it right there on the spot and gives you a 5 day forecast, really great... that’s about it.... just swweeettt!

Youtube is great, works fine, can watch a lot of videos on there. Except it isn't the full site. Like you won't get EVERY video that the site has. But even then... you have it on a mobile phone! And just so you don't understand, you get about 1/2-3/4 of all the movies on youtube. For Example, let’s say youtube has 100 movies. Iphone will probably get 50-75 of them-just because it can't load them all etc. etc. but even then... I have all the ones that I want and iphone has all the ones that I have searched for. For example, I typed in family guy. I got lots of pages of results with 25 videos on each page (I got bored and tired after looking through so many pages that I just stopped, there was probably about 30 pages. If you type it in on youtube's site, you get exactly 50 pages with 20 videos on each page.

Calendar is great, it’s just like the Microsoft Outlook one, and you can type in events and have alarms and that stuff.

Text messaging is great too, when you text message it will show up on the screen, then when someone texts you back it shows up right below that, it’s hard to explain, but it’s really neat, you might be able to find pictures on www.apple.com/iphone of it and the text messaging features. This IS THE ULTIMATE text messaging phone. PERIOD.

For all of those people that complain about the keyboard, I can understand, but after having it for a week I can type VERY fast, faster then I could on my mom’s blackberry. Its just so nice, BUT YES it takes awhile to get used to, took me about 2 days to get used to it. Other then that, I don’t see why people are whining! They just need to spend more time with Iphone!

Well, this is a very long post, and I think I forgot to mention about the calling features. (lol). This thing has great reception, along with great speakers and microphone to talk in. During calls you can put it on speaker phone or if someone else is calling you, you can merge the calls and have it like a conference call! It’s really cool, I have only need to do it twice, but if you’re someone who gets lots of calls for work or something it’s a great tool indeed.

I just want to make sure that people know, it’s not really a “heat sensor” its measures the magnetism flowing through your body, there’s a few videos on it on www.apple.com/iphone. If you are interested, you should watch ‘em and see how much you like it.

The Ipod feature is better than a regular ipod. It plays the music beautifully and you can do the whole flip-it on one side to few all of your albums. Ipod videos work on this as well, BUT beware; they take up a lot of room. If I want too few movies I just go to youtube. But I do have some Dave Chappelle shows on it and they play flawlessly.

I personally think the touch screen is very cool, I have had no problems with it, people might think it would be hard, but its not, it’s sensitive, but not TOO sensitive. It works very well and I don’t see any problems with it. PLUS its glass, not plastic like most mobile screens nowadays, and is very durable; which brings me to my next subject.

World clock is amazing too; it has the time of all major cities in every country. The best part is, is that it can be a stop watch, a timer, or an alarm! -Perfect for all situations.

Durability:
The durability is great on this. My friend got his the day it came out and has dropped it twice without a case on cement, it has only cost him a few scratches (he didn’t drop it, his friends dad did, and my friend almost crapped a brick…) Although you can’t fling this thing around like most flip phones, it still is durable enough to last awhile. You don’t need to be afraid if you drop it, but I obviously wouldn’t suggest on doing this because of more obvious reasons. YES the screen is GLASS, most people would immediately think “the screen must scratch easily” well it doesn’t. The glass has a layer of a thin-film like material that keeps it from scratching. It’s just like eye glasses. They don’t feel like real glass, but they are, just because of the extra coating they put on it. Also, with the Iphone, you can buy a “Crystal-Film” set to put an extra layer on top of the one that’s already there, just so you are even more protected, but obviously, you must push and drag a tad harder because its now 0.001mm thicker lol. I have them, they are great, and they are washable and keep the dust off. But usually, I just keep my iphone without the films.

Information:
For those that are worrying that something better will come out. Don’t worry at all, the Iphone is supposed to be out for 5 years before they even start making something new. AND for those who have ipods and itunes, you already know that there are software updates. Well same for the iphone, there are software updates and new applications to add to the iphone. Basically, they will just keep on updating the iphone until they have to make a new one, which won’t be for along time, like 5 years. Also, you get a 2 year contract, so you don’t have to have it for more than 2 years, you can give it up, or just keep it. And if you don’t like it, just take it back, I’m pretty sure there is a 30 day test-drive on it. But I wouldn’t know because I love mine so much, I would never return it.

Basically, I don’t know what is wrong with it, I mean there are about 2 things (listed below under the “cons” segment) other then that, I don’t see why you wouldn’t want/get one, unless of course you don’t need text, email, calendar, and all the other features. Personally, I didn’t think that I needed it, but after using it, it makes you want to use the calendar and email and all that.

Now, which Iphone is for you?

Answer:
The 8 GB. The 4GB is WAY to small, its like selling the 20GB PS3, its way to small to hold anything, and is just a waste, if you going to get an iphone, the go all out with guns blazing and get the 8GB. If you are wondering, on my 8GB I have 534 pictures, 301 songs, 3 episodes of Chappelle shows, and quite a few –large- emails. I have used about 1/3 of all of its memory up. I wouldn’t be able to hold all of this stuff with a 4GB. My friend (who I mentioned earlier) has a 4GB. He has 0 photos, 250 songs, 1 movie, and is almost full; he has less than 1GB left. The reason for this is when they say you get an 8GB iphone, you don’t actually get all 8GB, and you get 7.24 I believe. Same thing with ipods, you won’t actually get ALL of the GB’s. Reason for that is because the software that is actually running the phone takes up space too. They advertise the total amount of GB’s, not the total amount that you get. With a 4GB ipod, you get about 3.16 GB (that’s what my friend said-I’m taking his word for it). He is disappointed so he’s going to exchange for an 8GB.

In the box:
-Iphone
-headphones with button thingy
-USB cable
-Dock
-Wall charger

Cons:
Not really anything big but:
-Can’t mass delete emails, you have to delete them one at a time
-WiFi is sweet, I have it at my house, but without WiFi, the EDGE internet provider isn't too fast (3G is the fastest, with EDGE in second, but even then, I would expect to have 3G, but don't get me wrong, EDGE is still very fast, especially for being a mobile phone). Basically, the better connection you have the faster the internet
-The accessories for it (such as cases) all suck. There really isn’t a cool case out, and there really isn’t much else for it.

This is truly a great invention, so if you have any questions, just ask me through PM. I bought this phone on Saturday July 14 and it’s great!

Remember, you can always get more info on www.apple.com/iphone

? i looked at my bill, says its $25 bucks because of my $5 to have an extra line. ehh i guess your right, i should edit that. but yes, it is $20 plus the cost of your line.
example, I have a $10 line, and it costs $20 extra bucks to have unlimited internet, email, everything except text messages. 200 text messages, if you pay $30 you get 1500 text messages, you pay $40, you get unlimited.

i'll edit it, thanks laxmiddie

the camera is garbage and there really isn't a gps built in, just google maps.

I love my phone though, use it constantly. Definately recommend it to all.

And he's right about monthly cost. All I'm paying is 20 bucks extra. Its a good deal, seriously.

the camera is pretty good... its 2.0 megapixels, i thought it was sweet, or at least its better then what i had before, so i don't know, all i know is that its better then what i had before.

yea, i know its google maps, but it gives you turn by turn to what ever your destination was. start to finish, i think thats called GPS. I guess what you mean, is that it doesn't follow you where you go, you have to look where you need to go instead of having something moving on your GPS screen and an automated voice telling you when to turn, you have to manually do it. But its still awesome.

Lacrosse4life31

exactly, that's why its so sweet, I'm writing this review on my iPhone right now, i'm going to dairy queen at the moment, and I'm typing this in the car lol. no joke, i'm serioiusly typing it right now in my car. Once you get used to the virtual keyboard, it's really easy and VERY fast.

WiFi is also fast, since you just intercept the internet signal from computers, it is just as fast as a regular computer. For example, I was at Big Boy yesterday, and I was goofing around and it asked me "hook up to WiFi?" I was like... Sweet! Big Boy has wireless internet! So i hooked up and it was just as fast as the WiFi at my house. Pretty neat if you ask me, I'm not sure any other phone can do that.

You think for $600 they could at least provide you with a decent cover case for it...oh well, that's what big corporations do-they let you accessorize!

It will be interesting to see if you actually use the internet that much. I figure it is more novelty than anything, because who is going to use the internet when walking? You'll run into people. Look out for people driving while reading the "newspaper", they're bound to kill someone.

All in all, it might be a neat gadget, but the problems it might create seem really hazardous. Its already bad enough with cell phones. I saw some woman trying to pull a left turn while strapping herself into a seatbelt talking on her phone...she had a kid in the back too. People are stupid.

Sorry if that's pessimistic, its the truth though and people are going to die while on their iPhones. It happens with cell phones-the iPhone has even more stuff to distract you.

there are like no effects or anything with it. My sync had a better camera, was 2 megapixels also but it had like digital light correction and stuff.

I'm obsessed with the iPhone and I don't even have one. I have Sprint right now and long contract due to losing 5 phones to water damage in 2 years. My dad dropped his number from our family line and signed up with AT&T once the iPhone came out. He ordered his because everyone in town is out of stock. I'm so jealous I want one so bad. I really am going to save some money to buy this bad boy.

EDIT: And anyone "waiting" for iPhone to come out for other services. You have 5 years until they can. And if you think that another company will make one that can top the design of the iPhone.. Well... Its not going to happen either. I bought the VERY FIRST generation of an iPod about 5 years ago. No other brand has topped the iPod as an MP3 player yet. So I doubt any other brand will top this. The Samsung "Upstage" for Sprint, was made to "compete" with the iPhone in sales, which is hilarious because it sucks.

ONE BIG PROBLEM WITH THE iPHONE!
Well one thing a lot of people noticed was that the headphone jack is recessed so it fits better for the iPhone stock headphones with are alright. But it makes it so you can't buy nicer ones because it won't fit through the hole. Anyways... Heres the video.

they don't fit becaus the hole is much bigger. The reason is, is because the iPhone headphones do more then just listening to music. They have a microphone in them to talk to people, also they have a button in them: http://store.apple.com/1-800-MY-APPLE/WebObjects/AppleStore?productLearnMore=MA814LL/A

its actually a really nice feature. Besides, the headphones play great anyway.

I dont think it's that people "hate" the iphone as much as they hate the hype surrounding it. Sure, it does seem like a really great phone, but it does not revolutionize anything. There have been touch screen phones out for a while, many phones have real internet. My dad has an 8525 that can do most of those things. It plays music and videos, just not as an ipod. It also has a slide out keyboard which definitely comes in handy. And it didnt cost nearly as much as an Iphone.

The Iphone seems like a really nice new phone, but at that price it had better bring something completely new to the table. And until someone tells me what exactly this revolutionary new idea is, i'm not even thinking of spending 600 for one.

I got to play with one today. All I can say is that I am very impressed...
I played with the iPod for awhile with the coverflow and such. I loved the iPod part of it. I can already tell that I will have one sometime in the future. It was very very cool.

Only thing is now I want an iPhone with only the iPod and like 80Gb of storage.
iPhone - phone = 6G iPod???
Probably. I don't see the iPods heading in any other direction. Using a clickwheel on the 6G would be very dissapointing....

yea 3G is alot faster, BUT most phones don't have WiFi connection, which is faster then 3G. So if your in an area with WiFi, then you have already out blown any phone. I personally think the iPhone is close to being "flawless"

One glaring problem not listed is the nonremovable battery. Once the battery dies, you're outta luck and the phone will need to go in for "repairs" which will no doubt cost you money. If any of you doubt this, just ask anyone who's had an ipod for a a year or more.

yea yea.... totally forgot about that.
it costs $60 to get it repaired and fixed for a new battery.
but i'm sure it will last for awhile, i'll have to wait and see, i have had my 1st generation iPod Nano for about a year and a half, and the battery works fine, BUT instead of lasting 14 hours which it claims to last, it now only lasts me about 8-10 hours. but still, it is not in need of a new one.

but yea, that will be a problem in the future because unlike my nano, i have my phone on everyday all the time and use it all the time. Don't get me wrong the battery life is great, but CTlaxin is right, it will have to be replaced some time.

One glaring problem not listed is the nonremovable battery. Once the battery dies, you're outta luck and the phone will need to go in for "repairs" which will no doubt cost you money. If any of you doubt this, just ask anyone who's had an ipod for a a year or more.
Just open the iPhone up.

iPods can be opened up and the battery can easily be replaced. And the way the iPhone is put together it looks like the back can be taken off.

My old iPod opened: http://content.imagesocket.com/thumbs/IMG_0024e4a.JPG (http://imagesocket.com/view/IMG_0024e4a.JPG)

yea lithion ion batteries are sweet, but they will eventually run out. Even with that in mind, before you even buy a battery operated device, you should understand the cost and maintenance of these, SAME WITH IPOD! They will eventually run out. I I don't see the big complaint, its going to happen to every battery operated device.

its really too bad that the iPhones are so easy to hack which is very bad seeing as you keep so much important info on there and it is very good for business people who keep a lot of info on their

Yep says here that if you visit a doctored website or tap into a hotspot your phone can be hacked. It should be VERY easily hacked since its not like a computer with all the firewalls and precautions.

yes I know what your saying but I'm on the Internet all the time, intact I'm in summer school right now typing this on my iPhone.

Well, that is a problem that will be addressed by schools and teachers of the coming year. All these inventions are just fine and dandy, but it is just a more streamlined version of what has already been out for many years.

My Dad's phone can cruise the internet, type emails, bid on stuff on eBay etc.

The iPhone is hyped up and that is what gets me. I can't stand most Apple products (except the iPod) because the hype that goes with them. They are always promoted at being better than any conventional means of internet, music playing, phone system, etc.

The reason they hooked up with AT&T was because AT&T is struggling to get its hold back after selling out to Comcast a couple years ago. I thought AT&T had gone the way of the Dodo.

Personally, I am never in one place long enough and often enough to desire the internet. I have a computer for that.

The iPhone is a novelty, not a revolution.

Thats not the reason why the partnered up with AT&T. And how is it a novelty. Thats exactly what people said about the Wii, and it is selling the best out of any of the consoles.

Who cares of the iPhone is not a 'revolution' its way better than any phone I have used so far.

you have no idea what your talking about. If you have seen this bad boy and tried it out for yourself, then you wouldn't be saying anything that your saying right now.

also, i believe that AT&T got the iPhone because verizon didn't let apple have their way advertising and sales wise. whereas AT&T didn't really care.

besides, why would you want to do that? in order to buy one you have to be with AT&T. So you would have to switch.

I really wouldn't call that a hose down.
Oh but I can buy the phone without the contract. Ever think of that?

Even if I had tried it out, I wouldn't have been impressed enough to buy it. I can't justify shelling out $600, my social security number, and then whatever it costs for a plan, just to have the newest technology.

But then again, I never bought an XBOX when they first came out, mine cost me $150 new.

I never bought the N64 when it first came out for $300. Mine cost me $99 new.

I never bought a Super Nintendo. I still don't have one.

I never had a computer until 1995 when my Dad bought our first one.

I didn't have internet until 10th grade. That was 2001.

I didn't have cable television until 2001 either.

I didn't have a car until senior year of high school. I worked for my car.

I never had a cell phone until 2005. That is when I got my first phone. Guess what, it is the phone I am currently using too. It has lasted a long time. Even then, its the "pay as you go" plan because my opinion is that cell phone companies don't need my social security number sitting in their easy to unlock drawers. My Mom is a CPA and an Internal Auditor for our State and she deals with all of the people within the state that defraud and scam the different agencies. She also deals with people who steal other people's social security numbers. Plus the cell phone plans are expensive unless you're on the phone all day.

I never could justify spending big money on items that would cost 50% in two years less and 75% in four.

So, do I care if it's cool? No. I absolutely care not one bit. I don't like how the Apple Company has deemed the phone a necessity of our era. I make due with what I have right here in front of me and I do quite well.

If your parents want to continue to spoil you, that's their prerogative. It doesn't teach a good work ethic, or the sense of actually deserving and earning something. In fact, I just got back from working. I work for $12 an hour doing yard work, demolition and remodeling. The money I earn, I spend wisely and am not frivolous with. The iPhone is a frivolous novelty to me and I won't purchase one. I would have to work 50 hours just to pay for one of those.

Kudos to those who earn money to buy one. If that's what you want, nobody should tell you how to spend your hard earned cash.

So after all that, your "badboy" iPhone is a waste of money to me. You might think its better than sliced bread, but how easily do you come across $600? Probably easier than I do.

Its the biggest joke at apple that they can charge 600 dollars for a phone and still get kids to buy it.

Then again lots of the kids on this forum have no idea what 600 dollars and 60$ a month is to normal people.

My sentiments exactly, only shorter, and less argumentative. I've always been to verbose.

$600 is a lot of money for an electrical gadget. My computer cost $900 and does a lot better with the internet, music, shopping, picture browsing etc. The only thing it can't do it order me a pizza. Dangit! Where is my iPhone? Oh wait, I can use my cell phone for that...

Actually you can order pizza online from pappa johns website. Yeah I agree alot with lax@wwu , you can build your own computer around 600 and it could be a top notch computer. Apple is sucking everyones pockets dry with products that just make them wealthier. I don't know why the apple craze is still going on... When they first came out. Yeah, stuff is expensive when it first comes out.

It is a totally different point you make when you purchase it for yourself. It is something that you saved up for. My posts are in regards to the kids who get caught up in the hype and want their parents to buy one for them.

I'll erase my posts if you'd like me to so that it is just an iPhone review and not a discussion. Obviously, I'm very biased towards certain things and it shows here. I'll erase them if you'd like me to, I have no problem with it.

Good on you for wanting one bad enough to earn it rather than beg for one. That is a good trait to have, and something that should be admired.

yea, its great actually, it looks just like on TV.

Although, Youtube is just like a computer, if its video taped with poor quality, it will be poor quality on the iPhone, if it is high quality, then it will be high quality.
think of the videos like an iPod video, pretty good. BUT youtube, even IF broadcasted in high quality, is still somewhat "blurry" like its not the greatest quality, but you can definatly make out what you want to see. I was watching this greatest football hit and it showed in great quality, then i watched the lego beer song (you should watch that, it is hilarious http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ATBl4qH9I54) and it showed in poor quality. so i'm not sure. Right, but most phones these days are basically PDA's, and do play music. My phone came free with my plan (Samsung Sync) and it has 3G, Internet, Music player, Camera, Video, calendar with events. It does a lot of the same stuff the Iphone does but a lot cheaper. I'm not saying the Iphone isnt worth it for some people because it obviously is, but its not like its the greatest thing to ever hit the cell phone market.

iPhone has a built in high capacity flash drive. Your sync does not. Have fun swapping out MicroSD cards. 2nd, The mp3 player built in isnt good, im sure you have another mp3 player that is much better developed.

Your internet browser is simply not comparable to the iPhone's. Cellular internet surfing is nothing like it is on a PC, and the iPhone has a normal version of safari. 3G is the only thing that your sync wins with, but even than, the iPhone can connect via Wifi which is typically faster than 3G. (Yea, you cant find a hotspot everywhere, I know, but you can't find 3G everywhere either.)

The cameras are on par. Viewing them is alot more fun on the iPhone. The picture browsing is awesome actually, HIGH quality screen plus easy to navigate folders = very enjoyable experience.

Sure you got your phone for free, I got mine for $600. But now I dont have to carry around my iPod everywhere I go, I just keep the majority of my favorite stuff on my phone and its there.

Don't buy one, you obviously don't want one. But really I think you'd enjoy using it alot more if you got to sit down and spend some good time with it.

There are obviously cheaper alternatives to those you wrote.

The iPod you listed probably has 80 gig, the phone is obviously not worth anywhere near $200 (if you pay that, that is just sheer idiocy) and a PDA doesn't always have to cost a bunch either.

Sure, if you buy the most expensive crap you will pay a lot. If you buy good but average stuff, its not going to cost you your first born kid.

Correct, it does everything with a suberb job. Obviously you can get stuff cheaper, but the fact that its ALL IN ONE, AND it does a GREAT job in EACH of those catagories, then I think its somewhat-worth it.

That is true, now how does that help whatever you are trying to say? That's like saying if lacrosse heads were $50 rather than $90 more people would get them, or just if anything was cheaper. Duh...
