View Full Version : How do we stay in contact?

I've been in contact with a couple of coaches now that the summer is progressing but I want to know how we keep in contact when there really isn't anything more to talk about. I've already sent them my grades and everything and they've already seen me play and say that they're "excited about me" and that they "want to keep in contact", but they haven't offered me an official visit yet. So my question is how do we keep in contact without it seem like I'm nagging? Any advice or personal experience with this type of dilemma would help. Thanks!

Keep "nagging". Nothing is a better quality than persistence during recruiting.

What level are you dealing with? Actually sounds like DI schools if you're dealing with official visits. Remember they have to abide by the one call per week rule, and depending on where you are on their list, they might be trying to land other recruits first. Your best bet is to just ask where you are on your list so you can figure out what your options are. Some also don't offer officials right now, many wait until a little bit into August, but it really depends on the school and what kind of recruit you are to them.

Edit- I wouldn't suggest "nagging" the coaches. Inform and update when necessary, and ask questions when you have them, but don't be emailing/calling coaches just to be emailing/calling them.

all divisions do the unofficial and official visit, ive been on a couple of unofficial visits because im going to be a junior this year to some D1 and D3 schools. and last year a bunch of my friends went on official visits to schools frome each division.

so my point is D2 and D3 schools use the official and unofficial visit thing just as much, if not more, as D1 schools

My bad, you are correct. I was getting confused, DIII has different rules (I realize I left out DII) and so for a second I thought they didn't have official visits, only unofficial because I remembered you could take as many visits to different schools as you wanted. They have no limits on number official visits to different colleges, unlike DI and DII where you can only take five which is why I got confused (it's been a while since I have dealt with DIII schools).

Thanks a bunch and yes, I am dealing with all D3 schools.

EDIT- how do you suggest I ask the coach where I am on his list, just come straight out and ask "where do I stand on your list?"

I think the best way to go about it would be..."I know there are a lot of good players out there, and you have to keep your options open, but if you could shed some light on where I stand on your recruiting list....that would be great"

In my opinion it makes you seem less pushy and also knowledgeable about the difficult decisions in the recruiting process. They should be straight up with you, and if they arent, dont bother too much. Make sure to end the call on a good note as it will make them more interested in the long run.

One last thing...If what they tell you isnt what you want to hear, dont get down on the situation. Ask them if there is anything that you can do to improve your status with them.

It's not bad to let them know you are weighting your options too! Make an unofficail visit to the school, shows your interest in the school and lax program. If you are entering your Junior year, ask them if they conduct a Junior Day. It's a good segway into the discussion of a visit.

Good luck!

official visits start after the first day of classes your senior year and you are allowed 1 visit per school for a total of 5 visits for DI and DII. Unofficial visits are unlimited since you pay all the expenses.
