Inside Lacrosse Magazine is looking at doing a fun feature on the difference between Baltimore and Long Island lacrosse players and we want your input. What makes the ultimate Baltimore and Long Island laxer? Is it style of play, attitude, appearance off the field, etc.? Do your Long Island teammates make fun of the Marylanders' madras shorts? Do your Maryland friends make fun of Long Islanders' tattoos and pregame techno music? Is there a certain player that you think fits the profile? Or maybe you are guilty of it yourself?

If you think you've got either image nailed down, submit your photos to photo@insidelacrosse.com with the title "Ultimate LI/MD laxer". We just might choose you to help represent one fun stereotype in a future issue of Inside Lacrosse Magazine.

Long island guys are definitely more showy, and down here in Maryland we got much better flow under the helmet.

my favorite long island players are defenders, they tend to be very aggressive, attackin the attackers and they play with a cocky, mean edge, not to mentiion they are generally good on the offensive end, guys like passavia, polanco, gagliardi and spallina all fit thier LI mold.

As an Islander I must admit we have it all.

Style: With our gear and our sticks
Attitude: We play like were the best because we are the best
Music: Hey being so close to NYC we are bound to be influenced by the club scene
Aggressiveness: Yes we are aggressive, but we put the ball where it counts in the net. I like to say we play with more finesse than anyone.

Long Island players are more outspoken and Maryland players tend to just get it done and leave it at that.

i think maryland players are very technically sound, and work like pieces in a finely tuned watch. a big influence to their game is teamwork. everyone has a role they play great at, and they beat you from anywhere on the field.

long island players are like artists, and their medium is grass and their paintbrush is a lacrosse stick. i think they're more creative in how they play. they might run halfway down the field, zig zag and try and juke defenders out their shoes. sometimes they end up scoring big, sometimes they get the snot checked out of them.

MD players are more about finesse, while LI players are more physical, and ultimately inferior to MD players, also all LI players have Italian last names and annoy MD fans at tournaments with their obnoxious accents...

In the college world there is a consensus or stereotypes that goes into what you read in the scouting report if a team has a good player from either area:

Baltimore: Always have good sticks, and tend to play more finesse game. Because most of them tend to be Prep School kids, they shy away from physicality, and bring amazing stick skills to the table. Baltimore tends to produce the best individual players.

Long Island: These kids don't always have the best sticks, but certainly make up for it in attitude, and athleticism. They tend to play, like they were raised: Tough. Count on them playing nasty, and not caring if you don't like it. Long Island produces the best Team players.

death to the blowout!

Nothing sticks out to me besides the fact that long island and maryland dominates over every other place.

LI and MD are much more dominant than upstate, just look at the amount of LI and MD schools that are nationally ranked compared to upstate schools on laxpower. Section 11 is probably the toughest competition in the country. In section 11 there are schools like West Islip (class a champs), Huntington, SWR (class c state shamps), smithtown west, smithtown east, ward melville, etc. And in secition 8 there are schools like Garden City, Syosset, Cold Spring Harbor, Farmingdale, Manhasset, Long Beach, etc. The fact is LI and MD are more dominant than upstate. There are only a couple good lax schools upstate compared to LI and MD, and thats a fact.

Baltimore- Being from baltimore i might sound kind of biosed(sp?) but im gonna try to tell this like it is and try to make it sound like someone from somewhere that doesnt care whos better and is not on the LI side or the bmore side. Baltimore players have a style about them that can not be matched by anyone. as said earlier most of the top Bmore kids come from top prep schools, Loyola, Boys Latin, Gillman etc. so they tend to beat guys more then run over them and since they are not the most aggresive we need better stick skills so i know from experience that Baltimore player will spend all day in their backyard shooting and passing offhand and just working on their skills. they spend more time working hard on the field then in the weightroom. B-more payers will spend a whole day practiceing one shot and will lose probably an average of 50 lax balls in three days. were not satisfied with our shot until we can pin every corner on the net consistently. Can't forget the famous Bmore shag. We do have nice flowage

Long Island- LI players tend to come from more of the public schools and they play flat out tough and aggresive.(i know whenever i play LI teams i make sure to strap my helmet on extra tight. Better tie up your shoes becuz LI players will knock them right off your feet) they spend more time lifting then maryland players do and their not afraid to get dirty. They will run over you and smell fear from an attackmen from a mile away. they have faster shots and will put it anywhere the goalies not where Bmore players go for more accuracy then speed and always try corners.they are everything a maryland player is not used to. their littlest guy can run you over and their biggest guy can stop on a dime. they can crank from out side or pull a BTB right on the crease and their passing is phenominal. MD players have better matched offhands to their strong hand but i think the phrase "strong hand" was meant for a LI lacrosse player because even though their offhands arent as evenly matched as Bmore players their strong hand is STRONG!....

Bmore-Long island is a strong rivalry-and dont think iv neevr said Bmore lax is way better because i have- but i think were both equally as good just a different style of play. i respect both sides

i totally agree with cobra lax
Long island players are very "blue collar"
most of us come from large public schools and have parents that never went to college so we are used to working to earn everything we have. long island middies especially, they play the whole field like bulldozers, which also reminds me that most long island lacrosse players play FOOTBALL in the fall, and incorporate this into their lacrosse game, unlike maryland.
and lastly, style. when it comes to sticks and dying and custom stringing, you almost never see a long islander do it. we find it ugly and unnecessary. most of the good players don't even know what brand of equipment they're using. "if it works, it's good enough for me" is the common LI mentality towards equipment.

most of the long island players ive met or just long island kids in general are spoiled brats..they dont work to earn everything..unless your from like elmont or valley stream or the crappy part of hempstead i do not beleive that goes for the majority of the island...if any thing its totally the other way around..

yeah LI is generally a pretty nice area. that whole "blue collar" attitude is there, but there's no reason why it should be there anymore. it's just one of those legacy things, i guess.

in the baltimore area the lax players tend to be upper class kids who's parents and grandparents all played lax. if they go to private school, its most likely where their dad went to school. within the baltimore private schools, youre judeged by what school you play for, and its sort of a friendly rivalry off of the field. everyone has the lax mullet, and you can always tell a lax player just by their clothes attitude and hair. also the public school kids have more of a respect for private school laxers than kids from other public schools.

long island players (from who ive played) are usually italians with shorter hair and accents. dont really know much more about them i havent hing out with them ive just played them.
