How do you get into this camp? Where do you get recommendation forms? Does any one have a link for the camp site?

Nike Blue Chip is Jake Reed's Blue Chip. The name was changed before this year. Both Blue Chip camps are done.

I went to the nike bluechip camp as a rising junior this summer at UMBC. There are no forms to fill out. as a player there is nothin we can really do to get into this camp. it is all up to Jake Reed and D1 coaches to invite you.
Middie07
07-28-2007, 01:13 PM

does anyone else wonder why Geoff Shannon did not list any Goalies in his report from the Blue chip rising Juniors Camp? Im sure Jake Reed would agree that the best of the 12 goalies there the best was Ryan Brant from dematha... i saw him last weekend at the championship game up at Champ camps, Holding Dukes to only 2 goals, shutting out Tri-state. Kid is an animal, 26 saves Vs landon earlier this year... Geoff overlooked a special talent in not mentioning this Brant Kid.

i also went to the camp...great competition. I thought the best player there was a long pole from St. Albans. Fastest kid ive ever seen. Good camp, and yes you have to be reccomended. It was gay how we just got the reversibles and an under armour type shirt that didnt fit me cuz they didnt have any XL's. Hopefully i get there next year so i can get new cleats.

what don't you understand about being recommended for Reed's camp...you don't contact him, he contacts you...
Middie07
08-08-2007, 09:21 AM
I understand that, my coach wants his contact information because there are some college coachs that want to get me in it, i am not going to use it for myself
truth
08-08-2007, 09:35 AM
The college coaches should have his contact info.
SenzaNome
08-08-2007, 01:08 PM
If you really want to track him down, Jake Reed's a coach for the Balt. Lax Club, i.e., Crabs in the summer. According to their website, he's head coach at Dulaney High School, where he teaches phys ed. But he doesn't list any phone or email info -- probably plays with a wooden stick, too. Sorry, but this is one of those "who you know" lax events -- mostly prep and LI usual suspects.

08-08-2007, 05:56 PM
you really do not seem to understand...if a college coach wants to get you in he knows how to contact Reed...and another thing if this is for rising junior camp you'd better be an "AA" player because if you go there and DO NOT impress then you're sunk....and sunk early....you'd be better off to go to rising senior camp and come in under the radar and then make some coaches take notice...so if you're not one of the top 50 players in this year's soph class you're taking a big risk!!!

Plain & simple. YOU, nor your coach contacts Jake! or you can forget it.
A D1 coach has to recommend you to Jake in order for you to be ask!
Letters will come out in November I believe. Good luck! A lot of politics
here guys.

wow. all i can say to the guys that got invited is great job.
i can't even imagine how hard it must be, some of you only rising juniors (ONLY 16 yrs. old) to be in the right spot at the right time and to do so well that a dI coach sees you and says, "this kid can play, i think he might be a top 205 in the country". what an honor.congrats
not to take away from this accomplishment, but for those other guys that dream of playing college lacrosse someday and werent invited, dont worry about it. look at some of todays great players only a year or two into college. Most never went to a blue chip camp, or 205, but they worked their tails off and ended up in the same spot as some of the country's best.

These rising junior camps are the new "thing"! Look, in these hotbed areas
they start noticeing kids in youth league. A lot of guys don't get any exposure
till about 9th grade. It's growing with a lot of room to grow. Just 10 years
ago there was half what's out here now. Anyway, if interrested, there is
a showcase coming up in Baltimore in November (17th & 18th).
Diamond Lacrosse Showcase....works kinda like a football combine.
Coaches come and watch you go through the paces. Your coach has to
nominate you. http://www.tikitournaments.com Diamond lacrosse Showcase.
Check it out! I'll see you there!!! Good luck

While I'm sure many great players go to these events (Nike, 205, whatever), many don't. As big as those camps have gotten, they don't have enough players to fill all the demand for each incoming class. And if college coaches were perfect recruiters, Virginia wouldn't have lost to Drexel and Delaware.
College coaches nominate the players for their own reasons, probably to see people they haven't seen enough of yet. This is also true for all star teams at some of the more open camps, like Hotbeds. For example, if a college coach has already seen enough to be interested in you, he'd have to be crazy to nominate you to one of these camps or an allstar team just to have you recruited away by a dozen other coaches. If you've contacted a coach to tell him you're interested in his school, he can watch you all he wants in regular play at the events you tell him you'll be at. Sure, some coaches may just nominate the best they've seen, but others may be thinking it all the way through.
Something I'd like to see more of at these events: Kids having fun playing the game, not obsessing about looking better than their own teammates.

If you're talking about Pat Dougherty, who also made the Under Armour underclassman team for DC (only rising 10th grader), he was a "ninth grader" last year and will be in tenth grade for 08 season. According to a teammate from St. Albans, he's actually 17 and comes from a sports family. (Some of the prep schools hold kids back for various reasons.) Not sure about eligibility when he's a senior.

I don't think he is talking about Pat Dougherty SenzaNome because he is not old enough to go to Blue Chip and he plays regular mid not long stick. I think the kid you are talking about is in the other players to look at thing after the top 25. really should have been in it though no question

if you're a rising junior then july 1st would start your year of silence.
They can send a letter per week, an email or Im. They can talk to
you if you call them. They can't return a call so don't think if
you leave a message they'll call back.

All coaches look for something(s) different in a player..which might change from year to year depending on his roster at the time or the style of play he is promoting at the time. Some want athletes like Virginia, who can freestyle run and gun, and some want intelligent role players who are benched if they run and gun, like Princeton. All the decent programs know who is out there.. they have assistants, scouts, spys and alumni looking all the time.... and if your good enough for their team, or their league, they will find you. Lacrosse camps are a relatively recent cash flow phenomenon, I don't think baseball, football and basketball have a fraction of the "you must be seen at this camp". Save your money, play hard, get some help from great players or coaches, or watch great players for ideas, and tell your coach what colleges you are interested in and ask him to contact them if he thinks your good enough. Spend your camp $ on the girls! (I know more about this than you think!)

you know, I've got to disagree with you on Nike Blue Chip. Of all the camps this one has cornered the market for exclusivity. I would bet that of the 100 juniors who attended last years rising junior camp, over 70 of them have already committed to a top D1 school. If you get invited, you would be missing a great opportunity to be exposed. Now, I agree that there are a number of other "meat market" camps that are hit or miss. I think team camps are a better choice. Jake Reed has a great pipeline to the blue chip kids. If you believe you fit in that category, ask your coach to nominate you.

My two cents......get on the best club team that you can from your area....should at least get to quarters or semis at Tri state,Camp Camp, etc....do it early as rising soph or junior, play well and you WILL get attention from college coaches. You may even get the coveted Blue Chip invite (no question that it's worth the money). Top 205 is worth the money..... bonus if you make the all-star team.......Peak 200 is woth the money if you want Ivys or good New Engand schools. Best case is if the school of your choice offers a camp......go and impress... worth the money!!! If you happen to be a stud from Duxbury (mass), Latin, Lasalle, Georgetown, etc......this may not apply, but for the other 95.9% of high school lax players, camps and club are neccesary. Go to good team tourneys with your club team.......money is spent better there than most of these new individual "recruiting" camps sprouting up every year.
Ok, you're the best player on your high scool team.....so what?? Try out and play for the best club team in your area and find out how good you REALLY are. Make the team and play well against Crabs, Empire, Dukes, Clams, Tri-State, Tri Angle, etc..... then you'll get the letters and emails!!!!!
Best time of you high school career........ go to Champ Camp and play on Homewood Field under the lights, go to Rutgers, play at Towson at Top205!
A good club team is worth the money........believe me, the 205's, Peak's, Blue Chips, Diamonds will follow if you're good enough!
