nice. I'm thinking about turning my 80's nishiki into a fixie..
Did you buy it complete or put it together yourself? It's got nice aggressive track geometry. That's some steep gearing too. Hope it's flat where you ride.
I'd take the reflectors off the wheels and put on some toe-clips & straps on the pedals. The h-bar wrapping is sloppy. At least tuck the ends into to bar-end plugs, if not redo it all.

Do you ride on a Velodrome anywhere by you?

i bought it as a complete bike. its hilly where i live but its fine. i still have to take of the reflectors. i dont like straps/toe clips and i have been meaning to redo the grip.

I can't believe that you can still buy Motobecanes in this country. You must have bought it some time ago.
The first bike that I bought for myself (as opposed to ones I had in elementary school and early high school) was a Gitane Tour de France, so I have a lot of familiarity with French-thread bottom brackets and Simplex dropouts. I have a 531 Motobecane road bike in my collection as well.
My ex-letter carrier has a fixed-speed bike. He must be strong as all get-out, as he drives it from Arlington VA over to Landover MD. That is not level terrain.

I got passed by someone on a single-speed bike of undetermined make and model last week as I was on my way to the Solar Decathlon (http://www.solardecathlon.org). I didn't take it personally.
I've never owned a fixie. One of these days....

A fixie is any bike without a freewheel and usually only one gear ratio, the sprocket is screwed directly on to the hub without a freewheel mechanism. you cant coast on a fixie. whenever the rear wheel is turning, the pedals turn in the same direction.

do they usually have brakes on them? or do you stop by slowing the pedals?

Its the same setup as track bikes. No brakes, you stop by slowing down.

you can have brakes on them. some people do. here in maryland its the law that you have to have some sort of braking system on your bike. im not sure how many people actually follow that lil rule though

well there is a braking system instead of the traditional hand brake, you use your feet
