View Full Version : Not feeling the LOVE

After spending too much time looking at different members love pockets, I decided that I really liked the way they looked and was guessing that they would have great hold, so I wanted to string one! As a defensive player I was really struggling with keeping my pockets legal (I have never been stick checked once in my career) so I also thought that this particular pocket, although offensively minded, might solve my legality issues. So after breaking my watermelon evo I got a Proton Power and gave the love pocket a try... I strung one following some of the many mini tutorials on this site and to be blunt... hated it. It had the hold and the legal parts down but there were too many other things I didn’t like about it or I thought were superfluous. So, I set out to create a version that I would...love. The first thing I got rid of was the triangle top string: very cool but no real purpose. Secondly, I hate all things rolled so I used weaved shooters and nylons. Third, I REALLY didn’t like the way the pocket threw with the nylons having no space between them, so I separated them by a diamond. Lastly, the part I will be heavily ridiculed for, I took out "the love knot" because I found that just a simple tight interlocking knot served the same purposed and created an equally nice channel. So, in the end I have my favorite pocket I have ever strung on a lovely new PP and here are the pictures... if you want more just ask!

Looks good. I was beginning to think that any pocket without a specific set of knots and decoration was not going to be accepted around here. I never tried knotting my sidewall because it seemed superfluous and would only make adjustment a pain in the butt. A nice, tight interlocked, sidewall string will bring the same result any day of the week.

you have a very good looking pocket on your hands. me personally, i LOVE the LOVE pocket but then again, it's more of a preferance thing, i use on my longstick and it's perfect for me.
it looks as if you have a "somewhat" love pocket just without a few key item that makes a love pocket, a love pocket.
but honestly, some string love pockets because they look cool, but when they use them, they hate them. but im giving you props because you decided to change up the love pocket and make a variation that you like.

Very very mice, I also have found that the love knot can easily be replaced by a simple interlocking knot.
How's the whip on that? I play Pole, so maybe I'll give it a try if it doesn't have too much whip.

That is what a true stick doctor does. If he doesn't like something in his pocket, he doesn't just ignore it, he changes the pocket to his liking. Good work and awesome pocket.

Redbirds and ML_LAX: It throws so incredibly well, very smooth and has a great feel to it.
LaxHandle: The point was not to make a love pocket, the point was to take certain ideas from the love pocket (the shape, the hold, and the channel) change the things I disliked or found superfluous (top string, rolled unspaced shooters/nylons, and the knot) and create i pocket that truly works for me.
Everyone else: thank you for your comments and positive feedback

that looks really good, i also dont like the rolled shooters in the love pocket, they just look too sloppy, i think a nice weaved shooter looks much nicer
(and gives just a bit more wip =)

kevmc310- I did triple up...twice. The pattern I used is simple 1-1-1-3-3-2-1, seems like it would create too big of a pocket, but I used it all day yesterday and it stayed legal for me.
p.s. and for those that asked ill put up more pictures in a sec...

If you want to improve that pocket EVEN more, re-do your sidewalls by going outside-in, that way the mesh doesn't bundle up in the inside of the head. Right now If you did the vertical test it probably wouldn't pass.
If you need help I can send you some pictures.
