changing the color of your shaft

alright i have a red shaft, and my school's colors are blue and gold. I got it because I wanted a db803 ice and i needed one the day i got it and it was either red or purple. does anyone know a way that i could change the color of it to gold? could i powder coat it? and if so would that effect the strength of the stick and things of that nature.
