I'm currently going to be a freshmen and i was wondering what classes I should take. I've signed up for a programcalled ATMS. IT's basically Ap classes. For those who've been recruited what kind of classes did you take. Do you need to be really smart to get into a good lacrosse college or do you just need to be good at lacrosse and have decent grades.

Take the classes you want to take. No classes are going to help you get recruited for lacrosse.

Hmm, I'm going to have to disagree with you. If he's looking at an Ivy or other top academic schools, he's going to need to have the grades and take the harder classes. While a class isn't going to get you seen or make a coach want you more (you need to have the lacrosse skills), your grades are the crucial last step to finishing the recruiting process. Unless you're some blue-chip prodigy, you need to think like a regular applicant. With lacrosse you'll be able to slide a little bit, but don't expect to be able to attend Princeton with a mediocre GPA with no AP classes.

Basically I would recommend checking out collegeboard.com or other sites that provide information on colleges. Check out the degree of difficulty it is to get in and try to get those grades and take those classes. Don't rely on lacrosse to get you in because coaches will say no if you're too far below the standard. Also check out the NCAA Guide for the College-Bound Student-Athlete (use google for the latest version). There are a required number of core classes you must take and a certain GPA you must have at certain divisions to even be eligible.

but make sure you take classes you have an interest in. don't take some elective cause your friends are but you don't want to take it. and make sure you challenge your self, but school is a lot easier when you are interested in what you are doing, and you get better grades in classes you like(my chemistry teacher didn't buy that:nut:

just take the hardest classes that you will still succeed in

im going to be a sophomore and im taking all honors again and even though i despise certain classes, the harder classes look good to colleges

as far as electives go, take what interests you, im in Italian II and Jazz Band this year, im really into Italian and my teacher is really laid back, but it is good to have a few years of a language. i play guitar and there is nothing that i can think of that would be better than getting out of one of my hectic classes and just jamming away with the band for a period, it really helps me if im stressed out, its fun, and it also looks good to a college that i am musically inclined

not to go off about myself, but i suggest (depending on how many electives you can take, my school is on this stupid program at the moment...) you have at least a language, and something else that interests you, if you are into the class, it will help you to cope with other classes that will probably suck

not trying to hijack, but what kind of gpa would be acceptable? (not including a 4.0)

To do what get into an ivy? An elite school? An instate school?

Really GPA varies for a number of different reasons. At a school athlete's high school GPAs run the gambit. There might be one year where everyone was at the same level. There might be another year with some high and some low. Usually coaches have to make sure their recruits average to a certain academic level. And your coach can fight for you depending on how good you are at lacrosse.
