i think it would be a shame if they made hopkins go d3. it would take something away from that program and away from college lacrosse as a whole.

It would be a shame to their tradition...as well as those few other schools in their respective sports...and a great injustice...just because other schools are whining about something that really has no impact...grrr...

well, on the plus side, hopkins would dominate everyone in the DIII, so they can finally win a championship. but then again, since all their other teams suck or just aren't as good, they should make all the other teams DI.

Guys im just here to enlighten.

The issue is not the hop going d3. its losing their scholarships in lacrosse. if this goes thru the only thing that will happen is that they will lose there funding and scholarships for their DI sports. They wont have to change divisions, it will just make is alot harder to get good recruits. plus the pres. of DIII just said most likely its not gonna pass.

You are correct in exactly what the proposition states...but the cause will be JHU either bringing everything up to D1 or dropping lax to D3...granted some recruits might go because of their rich history, but they would loose a ton of talent and start falling to the very lower ranks...why would they want to maintain lax then as a D1 sport? They wouldn't...
The same thing is going on in the Hockey world...even though there is speculation about whether this proposition will pass or not, some schools have already been talking trying to decide what they are going to do IF it passes...
I think it is safe to say if it does pass, no school would continue to play in both divisions when there is no benefit...

that would really suck, cause hopkins is like the best, my grandfather went there and i kinda wanted to go there too and play lax like he did back in the 30's but if they drop all the scholorships, and make it harder for people to play lax there, i dont think i would be able to that would really suck

lets wait until there is a decision...the D3 schools will be voting Jan 9-13 or something like that...

If hopkins goes DIII it would be a major loss to D1 and the end of an excellent tradition.

alright listen to me once again, hopkins will not go d3 if this passes hop will remain d1 without their scholarships. How you might ask, well id say the boosters at hop will probably pick up where the scholarships left off, and if not they can always take some recruiting lessons from princeton. I.E.: Jesse hubbard full ride academic scholarship when he graduated high school with a 1.2 gpa and a 900 on his sats. There are ways to cheat the system, and if princeton can do it so wil hop.

ok its understandable that you think theat but let me ask you this:
Does not being able to give athletic scholarship affect princeton?
most likely it does. but does it have a very big affect? NO. thats the botom line. princeton won some absurd amount of championships w/o giving out athletic scholarships. now correct me if im wrong but princeton is not a cheap school.

So in conclusion yes you are right, if they lose scholarships they will lose recruits. But it will be the ones that they dont really feel that they have to have, not the big names.
