im a freshman and we have football testing on monday.
The two tests we have are the 40 yard dash and then we do 95 pounds on bench as many times as we can...

im out to break the freshman record.
38 times
im going for 40

i went to the gym yesterday and i did 25... i felt like i had ATLEAST 10 left in me but it hurt way too bad, i didnt want to tire myself out for the rest of my workout.

im planning on taking some motrin before i go....
The adrenalin will also come into play and the pain wont bother me.

does any one have any tips on how to save energy and have more endurance while doing 40 repititions?
help is appreciated.

EDIT!!!!!!!:
i just got back..
i found out the record was only 36...
i did 38...!!!!
after i was done my body went into shock and i fell on the groud when i stepped out of the weight room...

make sure you breath

get like a routine of breathing in so you dont forget, that way your muscles wont get tired near as fast

If you feel like you don't have any more reps in you, hold the bar at starting position (arms extended) and take a few deep breaths. Then try and throw up 1-2 more. Also, don't hurt yourself, and the Motrin may not be such a good idea, but if you do I wouldn't take more then 2.

Also don't go in on an empty stomach. Calories=Energy.

Eat protein of some kind before you go in. But don't try to kill yourself to get the record. Don't put your athletic career on the line for something that silly.

the most important thing you can do is breathe. also make sure you don't go too fast or too slow. just focus on keeping good form, going at a steady rate. if you watch the NFL guys do 225 reps, they are going fairly slow, and not rushing.

who you play for in Fairfax. I played last year for WSHS and I regret not joining football again.. Everytime I see anything football I just sit there and think lol. But yea, breath correctly, use good form, don't bounce the bar; well if you want to but if coaches or the people there are any good they won't count them. Good Luck!

LOL i've never lifted just 95 pounds, lowest i've ever done was 105. our combine test measures our 185 reps. Even being at that weight 38-40 reps takes some endurance to do that as a 14/15 year old. Our top player last year put up 185 20 times, hes a scary kid.

get a full night of sleep and really rest and stretch your arms before you do that, going for 40 is strenuous. Breathe during your reps, thats a lot of oxygen use.

I gurantee your gonna want to quit football after your freshman year.
anyways, make sure you used correct form and my lax coach always told me dont drink any water before you bench (i have no idea why).

It would be good to go do a set of Moderately heavy rows right before you do your bench test. This will help loosen up your agnostic muscles and give you 1-2 more reps I'd say.

freshman.

we do 95 cause in the beginning of the year when we all started lifting, people could do it like 3 times

so we do it now, before the season, to see how much weve improved.

its not really a strength test, its a test to see how much weve worked before the season

Eh you'll get bigger and stronge the longer you stick with it. I was always a leg/back guy myself but my bench is up pretty high now.
