i have a whole bunch of questions.
1) what's the best D shaft for the price? (price isn't a matter but i don't want to buy a Warrior Aloy 2000)
2) which head should i use? (i'm thinking about getting an STX Turbo, or a Wizard, or a Bionic and i have an STX Dominator)
Here's what i was thinking:
1) buying the Turbo and making a low pocket trad.
OR
2) Using my Dominator with low mesh pocket.
so here's another question, what's more common among D, mesh or trad?
also my friend said to me the other day "you look like a good D man." i'm 5'10" ish, (my 6'2" uncle stopped by today and i was just barely shorter than him so i might be 5'11"-6' ) 120 pounds. so do you think i'd 'look like a good D man?'

120? Thats not close to being heavy enough, your going to need a lot of finesse and skill i norder to work without the body mass. If you could bulk up to 160-ish then you'd be set. I recommend an X2, its novel to use old heads but nowadays they sometimes just don't cut it. As for a shaft, get a klyte wire from lacrosse.com, only $60. And use a mesh pocket, I have yet to meet a player with trad.

Yea, really start hitting the weights. Tall + Lanky isnt as useful for defense as short and stocky is. Lacrosse really isnt a sport where height matters as apposed to alot of others. Anyways...Work on your stick skills, stick skills will easilly make up for lack of bulk.
I recommend an X2 as well, its very stiff, strong, and not hard to string a good pocket in. As for a shaft, look for either a Brine Ignite, or a DB803, the Ignite wont break, but I have heard horror stories of 803s snapping, but 803s are VERY light, and should make up for that.

hey manif it makes u feel better im 6'1 and way in at a whopping 130. i just need to rely on speed and good checks as well as body posistion and strategy more than brute force. but yeah im goin to try to bulk up to 150-160 before jv and hopefully 175-180 by varsity. of course thats ideally. will it happen? hopefully, without losing any speed.
120? Is that even possible?

WOW people like you really piss me off ., USE THE SEARCH BAR. There is no specified height or weight of the Dman. You may look good but arent ex 6-2 250 lbs. Can be slow as hell. 120 lbs man d men ussually carry more weioght. HEad and shaft is all prefrence the wiz with an 803 is a great combo.

people like YOU piss me off. i would GLADLY use the search bar BUT since i had MANY topics i wanted to cover, it would take about a year and a half to find it all. most of the time what you find when you use the search bar is either vaguely connected to what you are searching for OR you find stuff IN NO WAY related to what you are searching for.
120? Is that even possible?
what do you mean? are you saying "how can you possibly be 120 lbs?" if you are, you are very ignorant. there are many many people across the world (i even know a few) that weigh in from 60 to 90 lbs.

I think hes just saying that with that much height he thinks you'd have enoughbone/muscle mass to breach around 140 at least. But seriously grab some protein shakes and chug a lug. Hit the weights, Being tall is awesome for d because there is more of you to block, and it makes it tons easier to handle the pole.
But for set-ups:
X2/Klyte
Wiz/803
Those are two I have/plan on getting.

Thank you for being intelligent enough to understand what I said.

negartory. people sumtimes think that and they end up doing stupid things like hanging their stick, then they get raped. plus its still a lot of weight when u get your momentum going. and d isnt just about hitting people. even if u are a twig, like me, if u have good stick skills and checks and body posistion, thats just as useful if not more useful than weighing in at 180.

Yeah most college defenders are like 6'3 210 (D1 anyway, even D3 smallest I've seen is 5'10 170). I'm like 6'2 200, and even sometimes I have a hard time decking the monster attackmen.

Well im 5' 9" and 135 lbs and starting line d. I know exactley what u mean by getting raped. IF your small you gotta be fast aggressive and mean. Ive seen alot of big defenders who dont own up to their size and pansy foot around when brute force is needed. If your small you gotta be mean and aggresive. Just beacuse your small doesnt mean you can own the big kids. You gotta learn how to check hard and fast and rely on your feet not your size.

theres more to d than being a friggin tank being small and quick with good checks aint that bad weel back to the point i like my intrepid head (six diamond mesh) plus u can get it for $30 at galyans, or at least i did i got my platinum alloy shaft at camp for $60, tota; cost $90 so thats wat i did and it was cheap and i like my stick a lot

Where can you still get a turbo or dominator? I haven't seen either of these for sale in years.
After using the same combination for 3 seasons, I can highly recommend the STX bionic with a STX Ti handle. Sure, the handles cost a bit ($275 Australian), but given that it has lasted 3 years it has been well worth it. As for the bionic. It is a little heavier than most heads, but it is very strong and unlike other heads, doesn't bend after repeated poke checks.
As for pocket choice, Mesh. Less maintenence. Though having said that I have just played some games using a bionic strung traditionally but using nylon sailing rope instead of leathers. It doesn't stretch.
120 lbs isn't a problem to play defence. It all comes down to what you can do with that 120 lbs. If you can stop a 230 lbs attacker from bull dodging you, then who are we (the forum members) to tell you that 120 lbs is too small. For what it's worth, I'm 5'11 and 215 lbs.
I hope that answers your questions

yeah tell were you end up finding those heads. about the pocket id get a custom pocket, mesh never seemed to have the hold or acurisy i know you like RP but as long at it has a nice two leather channel I think it will help anyone when it comes to putting a pass on a middy’s ear. So id think about getting it strung with a four leather pocket but its your stick.

I use a a gait oracle, it a new head, it look wierd but has an awsome scoop, the only downside( in some ppls oppinions) is it is no were nere pinched it is the biggest head i have seen, i had to make a channel to stop ball rattle. I really like the Krypto pro,and thats what i use.
As for size I am 6'5 240lbs and alot of times it sucks being so tall caus i get penaltys for hitting in the head when i go for body checks, one biggest things imo with d is footwork, and speed. Even at my size i have been knocked on my butt by a 5'10 attackman, caus they go for the knees.

I like the bionic alot.
Yess go to the gym, eat alot.
I'm 6'3" and weigh 160 lbs. Not bad, but not great either. I'm trying to get up to 170, maybe 180 by spring.

I'm 5'8 155, and my size hasn't held me back as a d- man at all. I can still take people on because I just built enough muscle to make up for my height. Just be quick and have good stick skills. Anyway, I think a Revo on either an f22 or STX ti is the best D setup.

You guys are talking about 2 separate animals I think. At the HS level, size isn't tremendously important. Yes, you can be too small but good stickwork and footwork will help you out much more than sheer size. However, when you move to the D1 level, those defenders have sheer size coupled with speed. Look at Brodie Merrill, Damien Davis a few years ago, Rob Bateman, any of the guys from Navy (Hendler, Felber). They're 6 foot plus with impressive speed. Even when you move down, the top notch ballers still maintain that formula (Clint Pitts at Limestone is 6'3, over 200 pounds, D2 player of the year last year) and the guys from Salisbury. But if you go to a team that isn't so good, you'll find all sorts of body styles.

I use a krypto pro with a g-force head. I've also used Wizards and X2's for defense and would recommend either of them. If you have good stick skills I'd go with the Wizard, if not I"d go with the X2. I'm an offensive defenseman so I prefer the pinched head. I wouldn't recommend a traditional pocket, I use very broken dura mesh so it's pretty soft but still solid and I tend to keep the pocket low to give the stick more hold and a slower release. Traditional pockets are too hard to maintain and just don't have many benefits for a defender.
I'm 6'1", 190 lbs. and I'm a pretty decent sized defender for high school ball. I've never had much of a problem as far as size goes, height helps a little to get better reach on your checks and keep body position but your going to need to gain about 25-30 lbs. to be somewhat solid. Just aviod getting ran over and you should do alright.
