Unless we're the next Bratton bros, we probably won't see too many letters for a few days. I did get an e-mail from a mid-tier D1 school today though.

I think its pretty much saying that we stood out at some point this summer. I think it may mean more depending what grade each of us our in. I would say it would mean something for like a sophmore but not as much for a senior.

usually unless the email tells you what they like about your play, where they saw you play, and they ask you for a visit. Then its usually a mass email saying that they saw you play and they might be interested in you as a prospect. It can mean that you are good enough to be a D1 prospect but just to let you know, there were probably another 50-75+ that got that email. A good sign is a handwritten letter by a head coach thats dated september 1st. I had that happen with the school i ended up committing to along with 2 other schools and 1 of those other schools were with me until i made my decision. Most likely you will start to get letters in about 3-4 works days but really depending on where you are located.

Then its most likely not the same leter, or the coach thinks your a junior. Legally they're not allowed to contact you and talk about their program and recruiting by e-mail or letter until sep. 1 of your junior year.

Dartmouth probably sent out about 50 of those, it just means you are good and they saw you somewhere and would like to see more, it doesnt neccesarily mean you are good enough to play d1 however, it means you have potential to play d1 and if you work hard enough you might be able too.

I've gotton a few, none of which were Dartmouth..

And, touching on Dartmouth's letters they are sending you--if all they are doing is asking you to fill out a questionaire, don't get your hopes up too much, some colleges have those questionaires on their websites. But if its real, all the luck to you guys.

My son got a letter from Dartmouth talking about the program and about scheduling a visit. A friend of his also got a letter from Dartmouth that did not mention a visit. Apparently there are two versions of the letter being sent.

We are guessing that they saw the boys at either Top 205 or Tri-State.

And thanks lilaxgurl23 for keeping everything in perspective!

One other note, my son's letter asked for game tapes. Did any of the letters you recieved ask that?

Well how often does this happen...

Kid has an alright off season after his sophomore year and gets a few DIII looks. Junior year the kid gets tons more experience, speed and skill. Is his junior summer too late to go DI even though he has gotten so much better? How often do Rising Seniors get added to a college's recruiting list?

GBaschski

I know a few guys who didn't get recruited til they were rising seniors/seniors to play D1. Just the majority of the big programs know who they want by the time they're juniors.

Sorta like GBachski said (spelling?), I would assume that unless you're a player that is going to be a 3 or 4 time all american at your school, most players I think get more serious looks as rising seniors. The way you explain how a player can improve from one year to the next I'm sure is not something lost on D1 coaches. But if you are getting serious recruitment as a junior, thats great for those guys!

Clearly the player is not a top D1 prospect, or he would be getting multiple
letters. Could he end up at a mid level or low level D1 school? Sure, but he better have a safety net or back up plan for non D1 alternatives.

Would recommend anyone looking at mid or low level D1 programs, also evaluate
DIII programs that would fit their educational, social, and playing needs.

It is too early to say. Many DI schools do not mail out letters until November. Again, that being said, the focus for all should be academics first, lax second. The school should meet the students needs educationally, socially, economically and, if possible, lacrosse wise. I know that everyone dreams of playing DI (and possible NLL/MLL). It is an awesome goal to have. But, school must come first. DII/DIII schools (and if they fit academically) also play on Memorial Day weekend. The upshot is that the student should focus on the school first and not whether or not the program is DI, DII or DIII.

Brunos 13, are you saying that just because we didnt get a letter from a certain D1 school on July 1st then it might be coming in November. Also, why would they write in November and not as early as they could.

Brunos 13, are you saying that just because we didnt get a letter from a certain D1 school on July 1st then it might be coming in November. Also, why would they write in November and not as early as they could.

It is my understanding that certain schools operate that way. From what I have heard the Ivies and Service Academies send out notices around September 1. Other programs send out letters in November. I am guessing that given the limited staff assigned to most lax programs the priorities probably go something like this 1) Fall Ball, 2) Confirming rising seniors/National Letter of Intent 3) Wooing rising juniors. Just my opinion.

Most schools send out 9/1. Some letters come out after Fall tournies, but I think
then there is a quiet period.

Speaking from personal experience, and knowing many lax players who have gone through the process, the majority of D1 schools send out mailings to recruits so they are recieved Sept 1 and the days shortly thereafter. Please
trust me.

I can all but assure you, the top D1 programs are sending out letters to their priority recruits in the early days of September. It's certainly not just the Ivies and Academies.

If a player is a junior and has e-mailed or written a coach, and the coach has seen the player over the last 1-2 years at camps and in games, and has not written a "sept.1 letter" thats not a good signal.

We got that one last year with multiple follow-ups, I interpreted it as a recruitment for their camp and not a 'real' recruitment letter.
A top junior from our team (last year, currently a senior) was invited out to Dartmouth's junior visit weekend last year...never heard boo from Dartmouth again after that (which didn't really matter in the long run 'cause he was recruited by multiple top D-1 programs anyway that he would have chosen over Dartmouth.)

Our son had a similar experience as laxfan59. Frequent letters and info. sheets from Dartmouth but nothing that seemed truly sincere. (Can you insert any name where your name appears? This is not a strong recruiting effort.) We have a big box full of letters from DI DII and DIII programs with similar recruiting styles. He ended up at a great university that showed a sincere level of interest from first contact which wasn't until December of his junior year but you could tell they really wanted him and not just any player.

Regarding junior days ask in advance how many recruits are invited and if they have more than one session to gauge their level of interest. At one of our junior day trips we found out quickly that they really didn't know who our son was in a group of about 50+ recruits. All the buzz was around a top goalie they wanted. We enjoyed the visit and it's a great school but our impression of the lacrosse program was changed after that. Ironically, in the end, they were one of the schools that ended up making him an offer but it was a little too late as we decided to go where we had no doubts.
