Longshot, I know, but has anyone been recruited by MIT? I'm curious as to how competitive they are as well. I don't know much about them, except that they're D3.

Thanks.

unless you're an incredibly, incredibly smart person... You won't get in. It doesn't matter about lacrosse at that point... You're going to be a millionare by the time you've hit 25. Good luck man, the competition is still alright but believe me they are a school first, school second, sports third kind of school.... So, be sure to have Straight to close to Straight A's.

I'm pretty sure I've got the grades, and extra-curricular activities to get in, not surprisingly very math and science oriented. Will playing lacrosse make a difference in my application, does the coach have any input/ would a recommendation, or like approval thingy from the coach be valuable?

probably not. as sweetlaxer said, mit is an academics first, academics second, sports third school. and their lacrosse team is at the bottom in terms of d3 rankings. so the lacrosse coach probably doesnt have a ton of say. he might have a little push for his absolute top recruits, but past that, not much.

Take all AP courses, get straight A's, be valerdictorian, (not nessicary though...) have enough money to go (although you might get aid if you actually get in) around $34,000. The acceptance rate is below 12%, and that's generous, and only about 60% of accepted students actually go to the school. Plus many many after school activities and National Honor Society and other things of that nature.

What are your grades?

the number of people that go from MIT to millionare by the time that you are 25 is really slim. but it is a hard school to get in.

i don't think lax will help you at all. MIT is in the 100's for lax from what i remember on laxpoewr. so the coach probably doesn't have much push in the admissions office

Grade-wise - All A's, Engineering Magnet School, as of now, I would be either Val. or Sal. so my rank is pretty high. Money most likely won't be an issue.

Well, to be honest- MIT is looking for well rounded students... If you have those kind of grades- That kind of backround... Plus lacrosse? He has a lot to work with. Send him an email telling him you're very interested. He absolutly has some sort of say because no team even if you're last.. Is playing to be last... They want to establish a program aswell... No doubt being a lacrosse RECRUIT can help you a lot! That school has enough valadictorians, straight a students, ect.. But, what they're looking for is well roundedness- That's why you hear of people going to harvard with 3.0's but can run a football... So in the end, sports do help... I'm just saying, you need grades first and well it sounds like you have it... So now work on getting the coach involved... That'll be quiet an experience man, I'm happy for you.

I'm not exactly sure if your post is %100 coherent. "U need be mad smart"? If you read the thread, we kinda covered that issue. But thanks for the input.

Ah dylan, looking back when you are in MIT, studying constantly, you will wish that you had played fall lacrosse.... Its not to late to join

Hahahah, yea, but I wouldn't have gotten into MIT if I had played fall ball, because I wouldn't have been able to take 3 practice SAT's every Sunday, and thus would not get the 2400 that I plan on getting.

Total tuition-room& board, books for MIT is $48k++

In 2006-2007, tuition and fees will be $33,600 and it will cost an additional $12,750 for housing, meals, books, supplies and personal expenses, for a total of $46,350. Tuition, fees and room and board will cost $43,550.

Yea, I forgot to add the books, housing, supplies, and meals.

For '07-'08, estimated costs total are about 48k per year, so by 2010, it should be about 50-51k-ish. But they have great aid packages, and my family is fairly well off.

Some schools have different systems for gpa, so that could be the case or he's trying to be funny.

Yea, some schools have different systems, my school doesn't even do GPA, we have QPA which is some crap out of 100, it doesn't matter though, most colleges recalculate your GPA on their standards, based on transcripts.

My son ('09) spoke with their recruiter this past week. His meeting was very revealing... Obviously the grades, gpa, SAT, and class rank will have be high; but she claimed there is no minimum. Her goal is to find the "best" 1000 students she can for the incoming Freshman class. Her ability to differentiate will be based on an interview you would have to do with a local MIT graduate and the recomendation letters in your application packet. She was very specific about finding students that are naturally curious and have a passion for learning. Therefore, the letters and your interview will have to convince her that you would fit into the new incoming class. I'd bet a note from the Lacrosse coach in your app would be a help rather than a hindrance. Good luck -- I hope you get in!
