They moved up, their coach pushed for it to try to improve the caliber of the program. We had to make the move last year and it definately elevated everyone's game.

I'm impressed at the rate lacrosse is growing in Texas. Wish it was like that here in Oklahoma. I think in 10 years, Texas teams will be able to compete with any east coast teams, and this is why: Texas produces good athletes that are usually big and faster than the rest. Look at how they dominate in football. When bigger and faster athletes start getting skills, how can they not be better? The only state that produces better athletes is Oklahoma.
and now a word from the east coast..........

well our coach did push for us to be moved up, and most other teams voted us to move up because we have a very strong youth program that feeds into anderson. they allso moved up st andrews

I respect no team. Anywhere. I could beat them all single-handedly, without my right leg, blindfolded, and on PCP. Also, if you change your state's name from "Texas" to "Saxet", it would spell "Texas" backwards.

I played the St Mary's Hall JV team in the tournament last year. =D
I was wowed by the campus, it was very nice.
See, my team sucks, and we just moved up to D2, so we're going to suck even more. We played St Andrews last year and lost like 18 to 3, they were good. They'll do fine in D1. Ah hell, what am I talking about...My team will go without a win the entire season. *sigh, we need more people.

Are you for real? How about the Central D2 Champs last year? Forget about those guys that destroyed ALL of the competition? Yeah, St. Anthony's lost alot of talent, but they still have more than enough to dispatch any competition that St. Stephens can put forth. Cedar Park and Keystone are probably the biggest threats to the Jackets this year, and even they can hardly be taken seriously. St. Andrews may have been good competition for this year's St. Anthony's squad, but now that they're gone there's no one to keep the Jackets from another State Championship appearance. I'm looking forward to seeing another 17-3 win for the Jackets over St. Stephens. BTW, I wasn't even allowed to play even HALF of the game against you guys last season. Our JV squad was in for most of the game while most of our starters were on the sidelines(I remember taking off my gear and putting on my warmups before halftime). Have fun playing the Jackets again. Fear them.

Being a coach in around the central area my D2 pick is St. Anthony's i got to see alot of their players at the air force camp this past month and they had some real impressive players. Not just the coveted covey, but their goalie is the real deal, he had great form, quick hands, and can see the ball. They also had a solid long pole and quick midis. Against central D2 competition their going to stomp em. I am not biased this is just what i have seen.

i completely respect texas teams and their plyrs. when i used to live down there in Plano, TX i realized that as a team, they weren't very strong because lacrosse wasn't a popular sport. Individually though, those kids could pull their weight. Since it was such a small sport, and not a lot of guys played, everyone always enjoyed watching their games and stuff. Here in NoVa, no one ever goes to your little side games, and select team league games, because since everyone plays here, its not something special to watch. A lot of the players down in TX are much better than the ones here from NoVa. When i lived there, there was so much pride within my team, and the reason we played was not to win, but to play the sport we loved so much.

How can illegal immigrants count towards the population? If they're illegal that means that the US Census doesn't count them. Genius. Pure genius.

FODOT it also must be nice to have all of san antonio be able to be on your team. Not to talk crap or anything but i'd like to see an all of austin vs. all of san antonio. I think everyone would side for austin. Having the benefit of having an athletic pool the size of San Antonio minus private schools must be nice. Although guess they broke it down atleast a little this year. Good luck on the season.

im not going to argue this... but i will say that 1. there are quit (sp) a few good players in BOTH cities 2. if it werent for this team i would never have had the chance to play lacrosse 3. we only have a few kids from each of the different schools and are lucky to get 18 kids to show up to practice, so that "athletic pool" is looking kinda murky.... and hey, if you really want, i'll let you shoot on me any time, and im liking my chances

It'd be a fun thing to watch, but unfortunately I'm going to have to put my money on San Antonio if it ever happened. Austin would be an all-star team, but St. Anthony's and St. Mary's Hall could actually function as a team together. Last season we practiced with SMH some and there's a mutual respect between our teams. We don't need to talk crap about "all of Austin" to make ourselves feel good. Putting down a team because they beat you doesn't prove that you're a bigger person.
Also, why do all Texas lacrosse players get caught up in the politics of lacrosse? Why can't people just play the game? Everyone always hates on St. Anthony's, but frankly, WE DID IT, NOBODY ELSE WOULD. Our public schools have been very reluctant to adopt lacrosse teams, unlike Austin. There are no good feeder schools to programs except for St. Mary's Hall, unlike Austin. The conference isn't based in San Antonio, unlike Austin. In fact, there's 9 teams in Austin D2, and FOUR(if you count the new team Reagan), in San Antonio. What's the big deal? Why do you have to have beef with us?
Let us play lacrosse, get better, go play instead of talking about us. I don't even play for St. Anthony's anymore, but you just don't seem to know anything of what you're talking about. Maybe I'll see you at an Austin summer league game, we can have our own San Antonio vs. Austin game one on one then. I'll put my money on me.

Well, I respect any team, just for the fact that they are a team. As for texas, you may have big athletes, but remember, you can throw the ball and get it to the other side of the field, faster than you can ever run it. So while yes, you would be physical, you also need to have stick skills, mental skills, knoledge of the game and what not. (but on a side note, isn't texas the fattest state?). North easterners, especially in new york and md, kids grow up playing lacrosse, they don't start in high school. Yes, maybe one day you will get better, but being better than some east coast states, won't happen for a long time, just for the fact that they are more developed than you. This doesn't make you bad, just underdeveloped. I see texas just like some other southern and other areas where lacrosse is not big, on any certain day, one of your teams may beat a north eastern state, but overall, the north east would crush texas, due to once again, the fact that you have not played lacrosse for near as long as say New york or Maryland.

While we are on Houston, it has now replaced LA as being the smoggiest city in the United States. Texas is a close second in the race for most inmates on death row. 455. Does anyone even give a **** about the state of Washington? What a ****ty state to name after our first president. Of course Texas is going to be one of the fattest states, it's got one of the largest populations. And yeah, Houston is smoggy, how is that the state of Texas' fault? Houston grew because of its industry. The abundant industry, mixed in with natural geographic factors, are responsible for Houston being so smoggy. Does that make the people who live there bad people? What kind of ****ing pathetic human being are you to judge a state based on how polluted it's most populous city is? Oh, and Bush 2 was born in Connecticutt.

03-01-2005, 10:18 PM
So? are you saying that its impossible for people to pick up accents from where they go? And are you saying that they should be considered texas if they pick up a "southern accent"? This is what I dont understand, everyone automatically assumes that someone is Texas if they have a southern accent. Im from Texas, and Im picking up a northeastern/new york accent. Does that make me a New yorker?
FoDotSix
03-01-2005, 11:33 PM
What "Southern Accent?" I go to Hampden-Sydney College in Virginia and I've got friends here from New York that talk the exact same way I do. The California guys you can tell, and sometimes the Maryland folk as well, but Texas has no influence on an accent. I've even been to Australia and they said I sounded like every other American they'd ever met. Accents don't mean anything in this world, and the Bushes are DEFINATELY from Texas.
jackal3688
03-02-2005, 08:15 AM

alot of lacrosse players get tons of crap from football players where i live. its probably one of the biggest rivalries. i can remember back in the sixth grade the entire 8th grade football team would come in and talk mess to all of us. to add to this subject i must say i have been up north to see lacrosse and what a few of you miss is that texas has tallent, it is the fastest growing sport and soon the state as a whole will grow to a point in which it is as large or even larger than other programs around the country. Texas has weak teams and every state has teams like this...plain and simple, not every team can be badass. The bottom line is that it doesnt matter where you come from because that simply doesnt determine your skill level. One of the best midfielders in the state of texas Erik Covey is going to play at the university of denver and this shows that texas doesnt have stand out players that can play at the D1 level... i firmly believe that in a few years you will see alot more texans playing ncaa lacrosse.
