not really, if you get the right size, at least for me i dont feel any lost flexibility, but some people dont like the "feel" of them.
An alternative is wearing sweat pants to keep you loose

what kind of box lacrosse do you play? in real box i have full maxlax gear and the maximum allowable protection. i would never play with anything less then hockey pants. i use custom box goalie ones. advise for anyone trying to play box goalie is that you should care more about protection then mobilaty.

yea, box goalie's save most of thier shots with body so you need maximum protection. I didnt read your post and i though you where talking about field.
For box, dont skimp on protection. Maxlax costs so much though, for full maxlax you need 900+ bucks. Last time i visited the site, a chest pad cost like 500$

I'm an old guy(48) but back in the old days when I played in high school in NY state most of the goalies wore football pants with the hip pads removed. It didn't seem to hamper their mobility. After all, football pants don't seem to slow Deion Sanders down. Currently. I coach my son's Thunder team and he is a gaolie. He wears football pants and it gives him a lot of confidence. At this age level, shooters suffer from target fixation. They do not yet understand that they need to shoot at net and not at gaolie. Gaolies get hit alot and i think they need all the protection they can get.
