Im going into my junior year and my coach has asked us to pick 3 colleges we would be interested in attending and whether or not we want to play lacrosse there my 3rd choice school doesnt offer lacrosse but my first 2 do
my question is this i have about an 89 average and i consider myself an above average lacrosse player not amazing but give me the ball and ill do something with it. Is Rutgers or Farleigh a possiblity for me? i know its hard to tell if you havnt seen someone play but id be interested to know because i would LOVE to go to rutgers or farleigh but i dont want to shoot for schools out of my league

well rutgers and fdu are on completely different levels. rutgers is a top 30 division 1 team, while fdu is ranked around 70th on laxpower for division 3. that said, if you are actually above average, then you could probably play at fdu. im not sure about rutgers, youd have to get some tape of yourself for someone to determine that. as for grades, check out www.collegeboard.com and look up the averages there.

I am from that area and know guys who play on both teams and people who go to both schools and dont play lacrosse
FDU is a smaller campus and the lacrosse is laid back to say the least
Rutgers is much much bigger has everything you could want in a college. has a nasty D1 football team. The talent is very high on rutgers dont let their record fool you. Grease trucks, lots of girls, live social life and you are still in jersey so you still have taylor ham.
no contest
a lot of people i know used FDU as a safety school when they were looking for schools.
if i had to do things over though i would have gone to rutgers lacrosse or not

Being an instate player..as Rutgers is in NJ, you might have an advantage because you are a "cheaper" recruit. You tuition costs less than guys coming from out of state, and for some coaches that might be a benefit. Rutgers and Farleigh are very different schools though, so figure out what you like about each one.

Consider each school w/o lax in the picture (assume a career-ending injury, for example), and then ask yourself if you'd be happy at the school anyways.

agent orange has a good point.
take other factors of college into consideration first. If lax doesnt work out for you, you dont want to be stuck there.
my coach played a couple years at FDU. They have a good program, decent team. If you're doing better than average at the high school level you should definitely be getting playing time @ FDU.
I live a town away from the new brunswick campus of RU, and of course its fun, but keep in mind trying to balance LAX, Academics, and a fun social life will be hard. You can let all of the excitement of Rutgers get to you
good luck!
