Hey guys, im a new poster..i've lurked for a while but now i need some specific help. I dont have any experience playing outdoor lacrosse...i've only played indoor on an intramural type team. But I love the sport! I'm a freshman in college now and i'm trying to join our school's team (don't worry, we're a D-3 team and we're not very good...but that doesn't really matter to me ;P). Basically, we've started doing conditioning practices and captain's practices. I'm trying my hardest to get in better shape and pick up all the stick skills, i'm a little weak with my left hand but getting better, my stamina is improving, etc. I was just wondering if there is any very very specific things I should work on/know to get started? I'd like to play Omid or attack. Thanks a lot!!

Wall ball! I was in your same boat when I went to college. Wall ball was my best thing. If you can run and pass that's all you need as a middie. You may not be a huge threat offensively but you won't be a detriment so long as you can run the ball and pass the ball. Best of luck.

Thanks a lot guys. I'm hoping I can pick up a LOT from all of our pre-season practicing and our indoor scrimmages, etc. I don't even care if I sit on the bench for the whole season, I just wanna be on the team so I can get better and eventually get to play. Lacrosse has been the only sport in my whole life i've ever REALLY wanted to play. So hopefully I can prove that to the coach/captains. Thanks again!

In your free time run, lift, just flat out excersise. Push yourself every time you go out on a jog. Obviously you wont be the most talented player with your stick skills, but you can be the best conditioned and the most determined to play. If you can achieve that, its about all anyone could ask from for a first year player.

Wallball it up, shoot as much as you can, and when you run, run with a stick and a ball. You don't know how much it'll help cradling and switching hands feel like second nature.

Goodluck man!

One word of advice, if you're not that good, spring through everything. Make up for your skill with your enthusiasm. Sprinting through every drill will show the guys you really want to be there and get better.

Yeah, right now we do 6 circuits twice a week which all the running we did in the hour workout totaled to 3 miles the other day. And we do captain's practices which is all stick drills, passing, shooting, and all that twice a week too. Once I get the rest of my pads up here next weekend i'll be able to participate in the scrimmage at the end of the captain's practice too.
