My high school just formed a lacrosse club team and I decided to join. I'm a senior and I have never played before. I'm going to be a goalie, and I was a goalie in inline hockey before so I think I can draw a lot from that. I still have almost no idea what I'm doing and feel even more lost after reading some threads around here.

I bought a STX Goalmaster and a couple balls today. That would be all the equipment I own currently. So basically I need a ton of help and in some pretty simple terms. I've got some weight on my stick trying to deepen the pocket, but I still need tips on the transition to netminding in lacrosse from hockey. I don't even know what the deal with the extra piece of mesh extending from the bottom of the head is.

hey man
.
i was new to lacrosse a few months ago too so i kinda know what your going through. i went to lax camp at cornell and played my first ever game there. the best advice i can give is to get in the net and take some real shots even let a few or prolly alot block off the body jus to get used to it.. i read somewhere that 70% of shots blocked by a lacrosse goalie are off the body, but it may be wrong. another thing would be to get some new mesh.. usually the factory mesh already on your goal head wont be soo great and usually ends up giving alot of whip so if you can buy some new mesh, maybe like some 12d and definitley check out jimalax.com for the best mesh.. another thing would be to string your stick yourself.. it jus helps get you more into lacrosse and theres tons of guides online even some on these forums.. try to learn the walk the line drill, its on here somewhere, and do it often, it helps with muscle memory.. and get used to stepping to the ball.. an' go read the post, if you havent already, about the arcs in goal and work on your angles and work on your clears.. there's even a thread on what to yell at your d-fense so you can get some of the lingo down.. besides that just read these forums, there's tons an' tons of info on here
.

i hope this helps some
pm if you need anything
.

o an' the extra piece of mesh on the bottom is the 'mesh mullet'
its no big deal.. but a good way to quickly deepen' or tighten your pocket

In the begining, do what every player is doing: Play wallball....

When I started i was lucky to get a Stick from the older goalie so i didn't had to worry about the stringing. If you can throw with your stick, than this is fine. Once you have a feeling how you whant your stick, you can start to restring it....

lots and lots and lots and lots and lots and lots and lots and lots and lots and lots and lots and lots and lots and lots of wallball. it would help out ALOT if you worked on your left hand right now, just to get into the habit. i regret not even thinking about my left hand when i started...
