I finally got to participate in the scrimmage today, but i'm having some trouble. First, i kept getting train-wrecked by the defense. As soon as the ball is in my stick, i get checked. What should i do? =[ Second, I never know when it's okay to chase the defender over the line or another middie. I hesitate, and by the time everyone is like "STICK WITH HIM" it's too late. Lastly, I don't feel like I have the experience I need to understand what I should do in-game. Does anyone know of any good videos on youtube or something I could watch and just follow a middie around? It's pretty overwhelming to go from playing one season of intramural indoor lacrosse back when i was a sophmore...to playing now as a freshman in college. I don't expect to make the team, I just want to get better and train with them so maybe next year i'll have a shot. Anyone have any suggestions?

If the other guy has the ball, or the other team has a ball on say, a fast break, just run with your man. If you get called for a penalty, its not your fault, your teammates should recognize the situation and maintain on sides. Especially if they have more experience.

Are you playing attack or middie? Seems that you are playing attack which is honestly not a bright move on your team's part. We always put new kids to the game at middie and that way they can run the field and not be in charge of moving the offense as much thus taking less responsibility off of them. If you are playing attack, think about switching to middie, then you don't worry about the midfield line nearly as much and can focus on making good passes and being a feeder to the attackman. Not as much glory but easier to learn the game this way.

Yeah, I want to play middie we just didn't have enough people so I got stuck playing attack a few times. What should I do about catching and keeping the ball? Do you guys focus more on catching the ball or more on who's close to you when you catch it?

focus on making the catch first , you cant do anything with the ball unless you have it

yeah, try to v-cut to the ball(ex. push the defender off of you then cut to the ball). But it will help to hit a wall as much as possible. So if you are playing attack you really only have to work on the offensive aspect of playing. Just hit a wall and practice tucking the stick to your chest.

another idea is to watch lots of game tape of high level lacrosse like on e-lacrosse
