I had my first high school practice today and my coach told me that he wanted me to get used to passing with my left hand. Last year I used only right so I cant do a thing lefty. Does anyone know any good tips or advice to help me get ok with my left hand?

get on the wall as much as possible, there's no tips or tricks, just practice all the time.

dont mean to hijack this thread but does anyone every switch hands on your off side .. like to always keep ur stick on the bigger portion of the goal?
a coach at camp talked about this and i thought he was crazy

yeah i try this sometimes, best not to make a habit of it though. in college i would do this for the attack/middies and take shots if we had a lefty goalie the next week it's actually amazing the amount of saves a righty goalie will make with the stick almost stationary in his left. makes you realise the advantage lefty keepers can have in a right hand dominated world

i do it randomly sometimes. it just seems to make sense to do it. the real problem is switching back in time thogh

angles, angles, angles thats what its about if you do that you have a bigger angle oof the net open the way your arms move.

to the point of the thread just wall ball and practice with your left arm all the time. also mark millon taught me to throw an imaginary ball towards a mirror watch very closely what you do, how your arms move, react, and go through. then try it with your left side. this works very good. try it

There are tricks. When you brush your teeth at night use your left hand, eat with your left hand open doors, etc. I used an attack shaft and played wall ball with my left moved to the goalie one and did amazing

i find that if u throw a while with one hand, it gets easier. so at first, i did one handed on the right side. then after maybe 50 reps, i switched to 50 one handed lefty. i hav to say it got VERY easy with two handed lefty after a while

Practice. I learned how to throw lefty by practicing with another goalie for an hour a day for a week. Start close and as you get more comfortable, increase the distance.

wall is definetely the first thing to do. keep going different distances till you get really comfortable. im still gettin used to it and im partially ampidexdrous (hockey, writing, tennis) and im tryin for like 7 months. im almost 100 pct comfortable.

I will swap to lefty when I am on the right pipe with the ball at GLE, but I swap back to right as I step to next position on my arc. I have no idea why I started doing this but it is effective and you wouldn't believe the number of people who shoot straight into the stick.

i dont switch hands, but the one handed wall ball thing is right, it helps you snap your wrists

would going left be better? cause most kids wire themselve to go offstick which they assume is left side. it would prolly be nice for stopping right handed sidearm shots. im going to have to go out and try it.

I wouldn't switch hands because of that slim chance that the shot could be taken while switching...and i'm lazy

Never play with your left-handed if your a righty, thats an easy goal for any offense. Just sneak it to your right side or between legs since it feels VERY awkward doing anything with your left. Don't even try it's STUPID!

Practice dodges and throws with your left hand, becomes useful in tight situations.

thats what were trying to communicate, only throws and dodging....whoever said playing is horribly wrong...

its very useful to be able to throw clearing passes with both hands.
