I think this would be awesome for goalies to have in the future. Its called d3o and is like flubber but orange and super strong and light.

Thats a pretty cool invention. It would definatley make a great cp is it could absord concentrated impacts. Seems quite light and flexible.

that might be the best invention i have ever seen. i wonder what its current applications are?

that compony who produces that stuff can make a a killing by signing with major labels like Schutt, Reebok, Brine, and other protective athletic padding producers. Who wouldn't want to integrate a material that can absorb shovel beatings into their pads?
I'd like to find out where i can get a tub of that stuff.

it would be very good to put in pads, but i'd imagine its pretty costly and not "out there" enough, or else some company would have tried incorporating it into some of their pads already

idk, cant say i get beat with shovels very often while on the field....

Some companies are using it for shin guards for soccer, ski suits, beanies for snowboarding, etc.

looks like some Olympic skiers are already using it.

it says that the police and military are thinking about using it so i'm guessing it'll be a while until it gets into the non-olympic sports world.
pretty sweet though
i wish i can get my hands on that stuff.

the shark gel has nothing on that. i mean wow. at least with this you probably wont feel it at all, the shark gel i barely felt anything but i still felt something when i got whacked.

wow a thin layer of that on the thighs of shock doctor compression shorts... so sick

they should make some knee high socks with that stuff in it like for bonce shots that would be cool

WOW that is strsight up ridiculous...I wonder if you could mold that into the most protective cup ever?

yeah it's pretty cool but they already have a deal with a skiing company- If they could make a cup that would be sick

actually for my senior project in my adv. tech class each person has to reinvent something out there and i decided to make a cp. im working with brickwall500 on it. and ill be using d3o for the padding.

well i have a feeling a shovel anda lacrosse ball will not produce the same result agaist thes d3o. just like this guy i knew. he made an unbreakable fluoresant light tube, he smashed it down along a tableand it broke but didnt fall apart just like it was supossed to, he got to the end of the table and whacked it against the edge of the table and it snaped in half releasing toxic fumes (phosphorous it think). This will be the same thing I think. It can take a hit that is low velocity but has a large impact surface, but a high velocity small impact area will still do us damage

What principle leads you to say this? If the d30 material is concentrated enough, which it seems to be, it shouldn't matter much if the impact area is large or small (up to a point, obviously). Don't forget, when a lax ball hits you, it also compresses a bit, making the impact area larger than just a single point.
Keep in mind, the company has products for skiers that protect hands and shins from impacts with slalom poles, which are not big, and are struck at high speeds; I would think this would be similar to impact from a lax ball. Also, they make soccer goalie gloves.
I think this material has tremendous potential.

If it reduces impact at all, it would be of benefit. For socks or shorts it may not have the same effect but if you were to put it under a solid pad, the impact would displace throughout the D3. Great news for Box Goaltenders, possibly not as much for field goalies......... What does this stuff weigh?
Remember that gel is currently used in helmets and masks, soccer pads and gloves, shoe insoles and ....... it's benefits could "out weigh" its functionality.

you mean expands, and your not understanding what you saying. Its like when your one ice and it starts to crack, you are to lay down, spreading out you wieght and there for no damaging you ice, if you try to move standing up you weight is concentrated on a single area therefore cracking it further. So the d3o is the ice, the ball is you standing and the shovel is say the shovel or the ground(in skiing)
but yea any redution is good

Your writing is quite difficult to understand, so I'm not sure I get the clarification. My point was that the ball itself compresses, making the surface area at contact larger, spreading out the force of the impact to a larger area. The d3o should be able to absorb that size of contact area just as it does the shovel.

Europe has suppliers. I know 2 places in the U.S. But its very $ But if i could make some sweet shin pads out of that i would.
