View Full Version : Stick Disease

Ok so I kind of just made up this lacrosse "disease" called Stick Disease. Sounds dumb, I know, but I have a terrible "infection." Stick Disease is where you can't find the right stick to use, and you can't get the right pocket in it. I try to get a low pocket in any head, and it either comes out with a nice ballstop low pocket that has a ton of whip, or a low - mid bag pocket that moves up everytime I throw. When you have stick disease you feel very depressed because you can't go throw with a stick because you don't have one that meets your standards. I just feel like s**t because I feel like I can't find any head that will give me a good low ballstop pocket that won't shift, and has little whip. Have any of you had problems with
"Stick Disease," or even know what I'm talking about?
EDIT:To whoever said a helix is good for a low pocket... I tried today, and all i get is the worst channel ever, the ball will not come out. Does anyone else experience major channel problems with their helixes?

I know what you are talking about. When that happens to me, I spend all day working on one stick to get it perfect. I might re-string the stick 5 times in one day just to get it perfect.

ive never used a low pocket stick that has a ton of whip, although if your looking for some help post some pics so we can help
Yea i had that issue this past season with my helix. the thing is just impossible to string. i strung it 10 different ways with mesh and it still wouldn't throw how i wanted it to. I spent countless hours fiddling and trying to make adjustments. It boiled down to me winning a Gait Fuel at camp, dying it purple, and stringing it with durable mesh ONCE. I now have to perfect pocket after only stringing it once and am completely in love with it. If you want a low pocket i highly suggest the Warrior Helix. I like a higher pocket and that's why I didn't like it.

for me, its not so much that i cant string the right pocket, but its that i am so anal with my stringings.
everything has to be perfect. i've strung entire customs and taken it completly out, just because one part was messed up. i have to get it 100% correct by the time i play with it, or give it back to whoever i was stringing for. i takes me less than 20minutes to string a mesh head, but it takes about close to an hour if i cant get everything the way i want it; and end up stringing and unstringing it.

well if u want a low pocket with no whip, just go with 3 straight shooters as that might work
also this happens to me sometimes but not usually

hahah thats the worst. This happened with my clutch when I first got it. Over a weak span, I must have strung it 30-40 times, it was pretty ridiculous.
Also on the note of murderlax-Ive done many customs, that turnout to have one wrongly interlocked knot halfway though. It bugs me and bugs me till I go back and redo the whole thing.

You sure about that? Helixs are known for not being able to get a decent low pocket, because the pinch is up high, and the flare is at the bottom. A high pocket should naturally form in the Helix, so I'm not sure why you would have issues with it.

Wear a condom. Then your stick won't get any diseases.

I have worked on the same problem for years. It is easy to get in a mesh pocket. Doing that in a traditional pocket... I have strung/restrung, 10-12 times to get it right. The secret is the outside rows. the ones that connect to the sidewalls, and three sometimes 4 shooters. always top string, never hockey laces

This has happened to me before with my Eclipse. Then I just took away one double-up and added a shooter, and it threw great.

I knows it sucks so much.
3 straight and 1 v that sits a little low is usually enough to give a good low pocket.
