shooting sidearm
Hi,
I was wondering if someone could tell me the proper way to shoot sidearm. I used a tip my teacher/varsity lax coach gave me. It was to hide the stick behind your body so the goalie can't tell where the ball is going. But when I do that the ball always tails off. I know most people say shoot overhand but still...everyone has to admit the pros do it. Any tips would be helpful. My stick is light so its not that i cant bring it around my body. And the pocket is relatively deep. |

yea, i've always set up a sidearm shot w/ the stick behind my body, but i keep cradling it in there, so i know where excatly the ball is, but yea i've noticed that sometimes my balls go way out to the side, instead of in front of me... what's up with that

get ur body into it for spead, for accuracy snap the rists. when u put ur body into it get ur front leg out, when u shoot twist ur whole body, that how my uncle did told me how to do it, and it worked for him. big time! he shoots at around a hundred

Really its not too hard. A lot of it is in the wrists though. Get your stick down low parallel to the ground and even with your hips, and after that just snap your wrists. Its the same kind of motion as throwing a baseball just use that motion with a stick in your hand. Your bottom hand will just guide the stick so you dont lose control.

Hmm I don't hide my stick behind my body too much I don't think. I don't really look though so maybe I'll get a friend to look. I've learned that keeping your head lower to the ground allows for the ball to stay in easier and I shoot more accurate that way too and it gives it a nice bounce at about 85 mph or so. Turns out to be a nice shot.
