NCAA Tournament Uniform Requirements
From a bulletin today:

Quote:
To all lacrosse officials:

When you are assigned to officiate any of the D I,II or III, NCAA tournament games in any round you must observe the following uniform requirements:

Long and short sleeve shirts are permitted as are mesh as long as each crew members wears the same style shirt.

Numbers are to be removed as are any emblems other than the American Flag.

Shoes are to be all black, white outer socks all the same length and hats must all be of the same material.

Outer jackets, if needed are to all be the same without any emblems, again other than the American Flag.

Thank you for your attention to professionalism
I find it odd that they want numbers in the regular season but not the playoffs, that they say "white socks" instead of the usual white and black, and that you can't mix mesh and standard shirts (with the newer ones, it's really hard to tell the difference if you're more than a few feet away).

They also don't mention the white hats, which they seem to always wear in the tournaments.

Am I reading this correctly?

No uniform numbers during the tournament?

Or am I misunderstanding?

For the officials. The players still wear numbers!

I think they still want us to wear the standard socks. They mention white outer socks, which would seem to indicate that something -- such as a black sock -- would be underneath.

As for numbers & logos, the NCAA does the same thing for all of their tournaments. For soccer, we wear NISOA badges all season, but have to switch to NCAA badges for the tournament. Baseball guys face the same issues w/ numbers

Ah. "Observe" as in "follow these rules" , not "observe" as in "look for these rules to enforce."

Thats how I interpreted the memo. I thought two piece socks were long gone.

Does anyone still wear two piece or two socks per foot?

I have worked with a number of officials, mostly COC, that wear black support socks and then white shorter socks over. It makes sense to me. I recently purchased a one-piece pair of socks where the black is so tight, to prevent socks sliding down, that I am concerned about circulation. But, they do stay up.

I think that this is a jurisdictional matter. Since the NCAA is running the tournament, they don't want any USL (or any other association) patches on the uniform.

In fact, the comment about no emblems other than the American flag is highly misleading. The NCAA requires the officials to wear a blue NCAA patch on the shirt pocket.

And, finally, don't forget the white hats worn by officials on championship weekend.
