Womens Stringing
Is there a reason why all womens sticks have traditional stringing and guys sticks dont. Every womens head ive seen has traditional stringing and it comes with that from a factory, how come mens sticks dont come with that?

Men's are allowed to have mesh, which has become the favorite amoung players these days. Women's lacrosse it is required to have some form of traditional stringing, no mesh is aloud. Some mens sticks do come with traditional, if you ask for it. But mesh is just so popular and easy to maintain, that most heads just come with it because taht is what the majority of men's lacrosse wants.

Well actually, the rules specifically say you can not use mesh. But Trilax is right also, you would probably have an illegal depth pocket in no time, but also, traditional provides much more hold and such than mesh would at that depth.

Why can't wlax field players use mesh pockets?

Because the Rules Committee says so. If you're looking for a reasonable explanation beyond that, you're not going to find one. At least, I never have.

If you want to get technical, mesh is allowed at the beginner Youth levels. But at those levels, a lot of accomodations are made (e.g. deeper pockets). Aside from that, I never understood why mesh is disallowed. If the player has a mesh pocket adjusted to legal depth, I see no unfair advantage provided. On the contrary, as others have posted, a shallow mesh pocket is more likely to be disadvantageous (more stretch, less hold) compared to traditional options.

So why make it illegal? At some point, mesh in goalie sticks was illegal. Legalizing them hasn't ruined the sport. And you have Trakker and Web-X pockets that are completely synthetic and one-piece. I don't understand why those are legal, but mesh is not.
