LIP PIERCING?
I have a couple questions about getting my lip pierced:

I've done my research and it takes 6-8 weeks to heal so ill be fine for the regular season to atleast take it out for games or put in a clear plastic holder. However, im in a winter league but its pretty relaxed so do u think i could get away putting a bandade or some tape over it?

Does anyone have one, had any probelms/ infections?

I hate them too. But if they want one, let em' get one. I think you could get away with that, I'd be really cautious though. Than again I've never gotten one.

Yeah...for guys...ears is enough...and even then i take mine out when on job interviews...

For chicks...ears and belly button /me drools...anything more and no thanks (well...maybe tongue)...

I reiterate...stay out of the face...no one likes a fish hook...think about it...

Second im 16 and i have a job, im a waiter at a growing(franchising) cafe, where on a slow night i make over 10 bucks an hour including tips and after taxes and a a good night i can walk away with 70 bucks in tips alone for 6 hours work! so lets try and stick to the questions at hand please!

I've seen some refs let players get away with a bandaid over it, but tape (I think) would be too conspicuous. As for a retainer (the clear plastic holder you're referring to), you might not be able to put one in until the full healing. The 6-8 weeks you're referring to is called the initial healing, in which you can change to smaller or different jewelry with the help of your piercer. I don't know about being able to change to retainers at that point, though, because well, I don't need retainers for my piercings.

Honestly, I would wait until the season ends to get your piercing (assuming you haven't already gotten it) and let it heal fully, so that for games you can just take it out and not have to worry about tape or bandaids. Truth be told, with bandaids, piercings (which are really nothing more than an open wound) and sweat, you're begging for infection.

Who really cares if people have peircings. I think peircings are tight and have both my ears pierced and considered getting my brow pierced for a long time. If everyone thought like that...we would all be the same. Its the people who get peircings and tattoos that make people different. Its called self expression. and im not emo at all...i wear abercrombie so its not like im so hippie freak telling you this. My suggestion to chslax. If you want one..get it. If you ask around alot of people will say "Ewwww" and alot of people will say "Hell yeah". Dont worry about what everyone else thinks and just do it man.

Yeah, I'm probobly gonna get my nose pierced or my eye lid pierced. I'll probobly have a couple tatoos too.

I dont know that you'll be able to just put tape over it, just take it out to be safe.

I currently have none of them in because on guys, they do not look professional.

I love some emo music, but some makes me want to punch myself in the face x10. Keep in mind one thing...you are 16. As three years your elder, I can tell you that you grow out of them. I went in for an interview at an accounting firm for a position as an intern for this summer and there were 5 guys sitting in the waiting room. They pick a guy and a girl out of 10 people.

With accounting, they automatically assume you know the stuff, otherwise you would not be there. So, as in most aspects of business, they go by your personality and how you present yourself. There were 3 guys with pierced ears who had them in and one of them had an eyebrow piercing in. He went first and his interview last no longer than 5 minutes. The other 2 with piercings went before me (I was the last guy to go) and their interviews lasted about 15 minutes a piece. My interview lasted about 50 minutes and the guy offered me the position at the end of the interview.

Just goes to show that being clean shaven, clean cut, and free of any holes in your head goes a long way...give it a lot of thought before you decide to do anything visible.

Im not gonna argue that you not have peircings in might have helped you...but how do you know 5..or 15 minutes into the interview those guys just said something the employer did not want to hear? Do you know 100 percent that they were not hired specifically because of the fact that they had earings in? Doubtful. It is becoming alot more professionally accepted nowadays then you think. My dad works for a very large business in which he deals with professional business like clients everyday. Considering i am his son and i have 2 peircings...and my brother who has a large "USMC" tattoo on his arm, he tells us he deals with clients and co-workers everyday who have earring and tattoos.

It depends on what profession you're dealing in. If you're talking about something like graphic design or an internet start-up company, then yes, it's easy to get away w/ tattoos & piercings. Conservative professions like business and law, that stuff will seriously hinder one's advancement. Accounting falls under that category. Any field where you are expected to wear a suit & tie everyday, you better fall in line, unless you are AMAZINGLY good at what you do.

Its addicting, however as soon as I leave college all that stuff comes out.

I never pierced anything, but I saw firsthand how awful my older brother looked with his eyebrow pierced. It looked even more ridiculous with a band-aid over it when he was at work (as a banker). Personally, I love tattoos, and I will get more when I am in Taiwan--but I keep them in places that are easy to conceal.
Unfortunately, people are VERY judgemental. Any visible tattoos or piercings (outside from the ear; for a female)--and you are giving yourself little-to-no chance of getting a professional position. Some people say adulthood is the time to "sell out". I'm not sure if its about "selling out", but there aqre not many things that are more important than your career (when you are an adult); so it's quite worthwhile to bite the bullet, and be able to present yourself as professionally as possible.

Oh trust me, there are piercings available in concealable places.

As for being presentable... similar to what RYU said earlier in the thread, it really depends on your profession. But you can use this as a rule of thumb: The more creative your profession, the more creative you may look. Hairdressers, artists, graphic designers - it's like a requirement to have ink and bolts. But accountants, lawyers, doctors, or anything that requires use of a three-piece suit? Nothing visible on the street or in the office.

So I'm a bit curious what is required of a journalist... it's somewhere between the two worlds, and I'm not sure if there's room for my monroe piercing (which I will get as soon as the season ends) in it. Oh well, I can take it out if need be.

I can understand piercing to some extent but some of it is pretty gross. When I see girls with those weird piercings, as a guy I am really turned off. But if you like it, go for it.

Wearing facial jewellery to work is one thing.

Wearing it to an interview is another.............Why the hell would you intentionally give an interviewer any extra reason to prejudiciously disqualify you?? Especially when it's something you can easily control!

Now, I wouldn't disqualify you for wearing facial jewellery, I don't personally care.

The reason I'd disqualify you is because leaving your facebolts in for an interview tells me that a) You don't really care whether you get the job or not, or b) you didn't really think things through carefully when preparing for a challenge such as a job interview.

I agree its stupid to keep the things in when you go to an interview. I was just suggesting its arrogant to assume the reason none of them got the job was because they had to peircings.

I mean think about this. 50 years ago how accepted was it for men to have any peircings. Hell even women peircings werent as accepted. Today almost every woman and probably a decent amount of men have peircings. By the time most of the people on this board have kids, and they hit the work place, i can almost gaurantee peircings will be considered the norm, and have no effect on any interviews or workplace alike.

I've seen many weird peircings, including:

- cheek
- elbow
- skin covering the rib area
- and last but not least the skin between the fingers

I know a guy w/ one, he drinks all his stuff with the side of his mouth, away from where the piercing is. That's gotta be annoying to do.

my friends sister got her lip pierced at college and imo i thnk it looks bad (on her anyway)...i'm not against it but idk it just doesn't look appealing to me...she is a little emo tho and stuff so i guess it fits her personality

ok, who ever said u have to drink with the other side of ur mouth bc u have ur lip pierced, u have no idea what ur talking about...i have both sides pierced, i can drink whereever i want, a pierced lip dosnt effect ur ability to drink. my god

as for "wierd" piercings, wahts so wierd about them? im want to get my colloar done(a bunch of studs surronding ur neck like a collar) i dont think there wierd. but if ur talking about piercings in the pants, then i agree its disgusting, thats an aera that shouldnt be messed with
01-01-2006, 01:10 PM
i think bridge of your nose is weird.

If i ran a buisness and you walked in one day, i would fire you on the spot. Its unprofessional, and i dont want you handling professional clients. Plus, tounge and lip piercing makes you sound like you have marbes in your mouth, and i hate that clicking sound.

thats different, if he is coming to me, then he needs my buisness, i dont need his. if im going to a client to get buisness, then i need to put my best foot forward, and i need to have someone who looks presentable.
01-03-2006, 03:20 PM
piercings arnt presentable, whats the diffrence between a lip ring and a ring on ur finger? because the person went through a little pain to get it its unpresentable? i dont get y ppl say its unpresentable
