i had some guy come to my camp over the summer sportin the cpx's. he had one that had a titanium facemask and one made of aluminum (or steel or something like that i can't remember) but he said that the titanium was much lighter and much stronger but i felt them and i could feel a difference. The titanium was much more expensive and i was wondering if buying the titanium is worth it

People have been playing with steel facemasks for a long time without them crushing or collapsing, so strength is not something you'll need to worry about. Plus, Cascade tests all their helmets to 100mph. That being said, titanium has a higher strength to weight ratio than steel, meaning you can make the helmet a few ounces lighter. Personally, I don't see the 3 or 4 oz making much of a difference since the thing is so light to begin with (it's probably half the weight of the buckets I used to play with), but whatever floats your boat. I am playing with a Chromanium CPX, and get all the visual benefits of a lighter colored facemask without the extra cost of the Titanium.

My friend and I were just discussing this today...If you get titanium helmets for cheap or free, great, but otherwise, there is really no NEED to have a ti mask no matter what level you are playing at.

crazy drew. you are so worried about weight. seriously you just complained about tape being too heavy in the stick doctors lounge. but anyways personally i agree 100 percent with dbay. i have the chrome and i think it looks cooler because it has the bends which tehy didnt put in the titanium ( i heard its because the titanium was too strong)

Yup.
Ti is obviously better, but my thinking is that it's certainly not $50 or so better.

I wrecked my face mask yesterday at a tournament...I shattered the lock that holds its in at the top. I have a CPRO chromanium. And how in the center of the visor it goes up. WEll I cracked that down the center...You could hear it crack. But the helmet is 4 years old and i'm suprised it lasted this long...So new suggestions?

Chrome/Titanium masks supposedly allow you to see the ball better. Unless you are a goalie, I'd say get the chromanium mask.

I think the only people on a field who need a titanium facemask would be goalies. Everyone else shouldn't waste their money on such an item. The Chrome face mask is the sickest looking thing out there. I have 2 of them, and was thinking about titanium, but realized I would rather use my money for beer.

yea, I just got a CPX Ti from laxstore.com. With the secret price and LAXNATION discount code it came to around $180. You just have to shop around before or you'll end up paying $250+ for it.

Guys, even chromanium stops a speeding ball to the face when you're a goalie. I speak from experience.

I have a C-Pro Ti (I got to choose ANY combo I wanted when I won at Hobart camp) and its a lot light and I like the view better (I dont know about the CPX though) and it also has a different design on the side wich helps with your peripherial vision (sp) note: the face mask seems A LOT bigger than regular chrome masks though, I dont know why...
